Rod Trick?
I've heard people talk about rod tricking, which is rodding between every hit? I heard you can do double the damage by getting more hits. Can someone explain this to me? Because it explains why 2100+ elo players rod between every hit.

Hit someone with a rod (egg or snowball also works) RIGHT before hitting them with a melee weapon deals double damage. Minecraft vanilla bug that's really op.

not sure if it works on 1.8, but definitely it does on 1.7

Rod tricking is actually a maneuver where you manage to land both a fishing rod hit and a critical sword hit at the exact same time. Something in the game's code thinks that the rod hit is actually a sword hit, and therefore the combined hit does double the damage.

Does it have to be a crit?

I honestly don't know for sure. It seems to be the most effective as a crit, so I always do it that way. I bet it works as a non-crit, though.

Sounds cool, and I'll be doing this between every hit. :)

I played 1.8 a lot, and I never noticed any huge disadvantage until I saw something about it in an MCSG PvP guide. Plus, it's not unfair as it's just a glitch within vanilla Minecraft that anyone can do with 1.7 (1.8 maybe), and it makes Minecraft PvP more interesting.

This should be fixed via a plugin or be bannable as it gives 1.8 players a terribly unfair disadvantage
also ban blockhitting, it is very op as people in 1.8 cannot do it as well

I remember it being rod and then instantly crit and then get another hit and it registers the second hit as a crit too or something? I'm probably wrong, but when your opponent is healing in build try to rod them and crit at the same time and it should do the job.

What if they have mods for 1.8, or were just playing on a 1.8 only server and CBA to switch every time? If 2 versions are allowed to play together, it is completely retarded if 1 has the advantage.

That's why you have the option to play the other.
