Ok so I have been without optifine for 9 months ever since I got a new pc, no it is not new it is my super old one from like 2008, my newer one that wasn't that good either broke but I did have optifine on it and I did buy a cape. Now on this new computer I am not able to download optifine. I looked up tons of tutorials and none of them work for me. I will explain what is happening. Ok so I am able to like go on the optifine page and download it on my browser(firefox), but when I try to open it with that java tm thing the launcher/downloader thing is supposed to pop up right? It doesn't pop up and I have no idea why and having a badass cape that I can't see is really pissing me off and since my computer is crap I could really use the fps boost. Please tell me what I should do, any ideas are appreciated.

Download java from the java site and try again, then right click the file and open with java SE binary

Pretty much this, but if java doesn't want to open it for some strange reason (like me) go to command prompt and type in java -jar then drag and drop the optifine jar into it.
