Please enlighten me on how persistent thread locking maintains or makes for a good forum. Please.Posted on 05 November 2016 - 01:14 PM
I should've specified on one point. How does locking a thread help discussion, which is the ultimate point of a forum?Posted on 05 November 2016 - 01:15 PM

it's becoming increasingly clear that locking threads have become something you like to do for your own amusement, hiding behind some facade you've set up of keeping garbage contained on these forums. if that was really your goal, a solid quarter of your own posts wouldn't exist
not do you only lock, but you try to be really clever with your "thread locked" posts:

this stuff is pointless, too:

you're a staff member, and you answered their question — great. but all of these questions still have room for discussion, and you silence it beforehand. it's only when people begin to intentionally mislead (not joke around) that you as a moderator have to take action. you're not here to exercise your power through controlling what's discussed and what's not. people post garbage and that's a fact, but when you lock threads, you don't do anything to "manage" it. instead it leaks over to other places on the forum and in the end, you haven't actually done anything to change the way people behave.
to me, it just looks like you lock threads to boost your post count one by one. it's probably not the case, but there's nothing about what you do that makes me think you're actively trying to make the forums a better place.

Very good post, not just Cube but a lot of staff don't seem to grasp the concept of natural death of forum threads.

Alas, I am the victim of one of my great topics that could've resulted in tons of great discussions being locked prematurely.https://www.badlion.net/forum/thread/140400
It's a real shame that some people just don't understand the importance of quality threads.

I agree with this entirely. In addition to an absurd amount of thread closures that unnecessarily stop people from having fun, he also boosts his count by posting a "-1" on every suggestion thread he sees. A little while ago, my friends started to compile a list of all his -1's, however there were so many that they soon gave up.
All of these were posted over a span of about three days:

Conduct like this is more than unhelpful- it's harmful to the server. People are putting themselves out there in an attempt to offer improvements to the server, and what do they get? Someone trying to make them feel like their idea is stupid, and a mod no less. It's fair to say that a mod's opinion has much more weight than an average player's, and getting a "-1" from one could easily make someone think they should give up on an idea. There's a reason why there's only a thumb's up button on the forums, and I'm assuming it's because BadLion didn't just want people disliking those who are only trying to help the community. Of course not all suggestion threads are logical or serious, but looking through his posts, he dislikes many completely reasonable suggestions. It would be one thing if he offered up an alternative instead, or explained why what they posted might not be a good idea, but rather, he types a quick "-1" and moves onto the next one.
It gets to the point where it's practically spam. At the time we compiled the list, my friends and I attempted to call him out on this behavior. We "-1'd" one of his suggestions on some of our alts to demonstrate why this is annoying and not helpful at all, and I offered up an explanation on the thread for why we were doing it, but instead of taking this in mind, he got all our alts' forum accounts banned without warning. I still think MeMyselfAndCube is capable of being a good mod, but I do believe an admin or a senior should tell him to cease this behavior as it is harmful to the community. All of this applies to the excessive thread locking as well.

Looking more into some of MeMyselfAndCube's lock posts, what Morsinius said about him using his ability to lock posts to try and look clever is even more apparent. What any other player would just leave as what they think is a "witty" comment, MeMyselfAndCube leaves the comment and then locks the topic, so he's able to get in the "last word" and look even cooler in his mind. It also stops anyone from being able to dispute his remark, so he doesn't have any opposition to what he says. However, this ruins the fun for every other player that isn't him, and doesn't allow anyone else to get in any funny comments or discussion. What he needs is a reality check, and to genuinely consider how this decreases the enjoyment of other players who for no reason at all are now unable to comment on many humorous threads that they would like to. As Unshift said, all this does is prevent discussion, which is the whole reason people are on here to begin with. Players come here to have a good time conversing, not to see one person use their power to be a smart-ass and stop discussion.Last edited on 06 November 2016 - 10:30 AM by Astounding

This thread has turned into a flame war about a single mod. This is a good reason to lock the thread.
