Thoughts on @iHackLiTE??
Why am I still checking Badlion forums when I should be on LOA?
Thoughts on Badlion in general?
Thank you for the very nice opinion.
@iHackLiTE is an interesting kitty. I'd consider him an acquaintance of mine, but not necessarily a friend. I feel bad that he has to get sniped by people and I really feel that he should be getting some sort of protection like /disguise and SOMEHOW MMR refunds against cheaters. He may be toxic, but I honestly think that he has a very strong ability to detect hacks, especially in first-person evidence, and I think he would make a good mod.
Because you gotta be like me and always get that post count! 🙌💪🙌
In my whole hearted opinion, Badlion is definately not just a Minecraft server. They are the most professional, organized, developed, and intelligent Minecraft Network by far, in my opinion. I feel they can be a little strict with the staff sometimes, having a few rules that make us acting like flight attendants or police officers, but we were still left to have a personality, unlike servers' staff teams like Hypixel or Mineplex. I feel this is reflected in me and Funky's demotion (yes that's correct grammar), but that's not what the question was about.
I feel that Badlion has a bit too strong of an ego. I'll touch on their confidence when I discuss Badlion Premium, but I feel that they don't want to admit that many flops were, well… flops. A good example of this was Season 13. Yes, I agree that the change from ELO to MMR was needed with the expansion of Badlion Premium, but the obvious contention the community had towards it was acknowledged, but manipulated. What I mean by this was how Archy was tweeting stuff like, "once you get used to the MMR system, you'll never want to go back to ELO again." Stuff like that, putting his own feelings into the community.
There's also CTF, which was an utter disaster. It was a cool gamemode at first, the tournament was fun, but it simply did not have the traits needed to keep it running. There was no variation from game to game. People like Arena because of the ranking system and/or the ability to practice your PvP. People like SG because it's different every time and/or because of the ranking system. People like UHC because of stats, the variation, and/or because it's simply a changed version of plain old vanilla Minecraft. CTF had nothing. It felt like a Hypixel or Mineplex type game to me, but not as fun. There was no ranking system, only basic stats that broke a lot. There was no in-game currency to rank up items, buy in-game upgrades, or anything like that, such as what Hypixel Skywars and Skyclash has. I was telling my friends after playing it on the first day that it was released, that it was going to be a flop. I still think tournaments for CTF will be popular, but nobody will really play the gamemode because they genuinly enjoy it.
For Badlion Premium, I have mixed thoughts on it. I feel like they are biting off more than they can chew, as cliché as it is. I'm sure if any higher-ups saw this, they'd look at me like an ignorant kid, but I think Badlion is trying to turn Minecraft into a competitive game, like CS:GO by introducting a platform like ESEA. An approach like FaceIt does would be better in my eyes. (If you'd ever play CS:GO you'd know what all this is.) I think releasing all this new content one step at a time would have been a lot smarter. I also think that Badlion Premium will be way too expensive for enough people needed to maintain a community to actually want it.
At the end of the day, Minecraft is a game designed for you to build houses and have adventures by yourself or with friends. I would bet any sum of money that Notch did not envision PvP to turn into what it has today, or what Badlion wants it to become. This is even displayed in Minecraft 1.9 and beyond; the game is not designed as a competitive multiplayer PvP game.
I know this is a very unorganized response, but I want to also talk about the staff team. When I first got Trial, I was in the school bathroom at the urinal when my phone went off with a Skype request from ginie1. I freaked out. I applied for Badlion during late December of 2015, and I got a Skype request on May 29, 2016. There was snow outside my house when I applied and I got accepted when it was a damn scorcher wherever you stepped foor in muggy Summer Connecticut.
When I was first reading the staff handbook, I was very impressed. Badlion ran their staff team like a company. You didn't get demoted, you got fired. You had a manager. There was a well-organized "staff tree". There was a bunch of stuff on maintaining professionalism. There was a lot of stuff on maintaining confidentiality, as (paraphrasing) "Badlion staff members are exposed to a lot of sensitive information that needs to stay within the staff circle." I feel that the higher-ups manipulate trials and blue-tags a lot, espicially with this last point. The only thing that's truly confidential to us was staff applications, and maybe some testing. Otherwise, there's almost nothing. I even still feel that Seniors are treated a bit that way too, for example, how they don't really get that many G-Cheat logs. I think the higher-ups do a good job of making the staff team feel like they're really important and relevant to them and the community, when in reality, you're just another number in the system. That's exactly how I felt, like a variable with some data values on my performance.
Now I don't want them to seem like bad guys, we truly did help a lot. Without a moderation team, Badlion would be hell in Minecraft. I definately enjoyed moderating, but I feel that they leave no end-user input for blue-tags and below. A good example of this is punishments. All mutes are automated, it doesn't matter if you say, "kys" or "FUCK ALL F*G BOWSPAMMING C**TS GO KILL YOUR MOM AND HANG YOURSELF." As the end of the day, clicking on that little damage potion will mute for the exact same time. It's ridiculous, higher-ups discourage robotic modding when the system is designed this way. Yes, you can go to a Senior+ for an extended mute, but who really does that? That's only mutes, bans are even worse. All cheating is a perm ban. Camping is a warn-kick-temp ban system. Solicitation is judgemental, and inappropriate usernames are judgemental.
I think the worst ban-related system though, is the appeals section. A kid you banned for cheating could write a five paragraph essay for his appeal which shows that they are truly sorry and want to change, or write a sentence, and their unban time will be the exact same, accepted by a bot. That's utter bullshit. I remember when you had to actually write a proper paragraph in your appeal when nowadays ten words will suffice the Seniors, and an ASCII character will suffice the bot. We do get to change times for things like DDoS threats depending on effort, but I think something should be done for appeals too.
Unwise/Nate, thanks for reading all of this and I hope you keep going strong and maybe consider some of my ideas, sorry for the terrible organisation too! :)

eh you seemed like an overly serious guy both in Drained and as a mod, which is why all of us left, but you're a pretty responsible and hardworking guy. Good luck in life.Posted on 04 January 2017 - 01:11 PM
When you were staff my thoughts on you were kinda negative but at the end of the day I admired you and respected you. I was fucking pissed when I heard when you got demoted. You were on top on locking shit threads. Sad to see you go man. Also opinionPosted on 04 January 2017 - 02:54 PM
