Here is a suggestion (Might sound stupid).

Honestly, if you're looking for a new start. I would say RESET THE BAN LIST. Give EVERYONE a new start. Give them ONE MORE CHANCE no matter WHAT THEY DID to prove themselves.

If they are caught cheating, then ban their asses no questions asked. However, I feel as if this were to happen… Then more people would see the fun in it.

It would be amazing see Cayden and shortbus316 flying around!!!! (No ofense, it´s just impossible. It would be like erasing all the hard work the mods do each day)

I've been playing badlion for about 1 1/2 years and the server has been by far my favorite over any other as we have amazing and great mods and admins to make this server successful and better everytime I log on. I love the new features you guys are adding as this will increase donations and player base and make it better overall. I love the idea about the /duel command and the change your kit arrangement, as it makes the players how they want it and not how there forced to have it. And the duels will be better as everyone will get the same kit in the fight and nobody will have the advantage/disadvantage. I love the Badlion network and this is befar the best idea I've seen and I will be soon donating on my new account Ecliptek. I'm so excited for the new badlion pot Pvp 3.0! And the new matchmaking will be great as well. The lag is not that much anymore and I haven't had any server based lag in a while. Only time I lag is when Itd my own internet, so thank you mods/admins for the hard work and the greatness you have put into badlion.

Well we are going to move away from signs…but i mean if we wanted to just do a matchmaking system like that we would just have multiple "queues" built internally and detect the player's rating and just put them in the correct one.

E.g.

0 - 1200
1200 - 1400
1400 - 1600
1600 - 1800
1800 - 9999

We could do this, it would work but will result in longer match times if everyone that is playing is between 1400 - 1600 and not the other ranges. Could make the system smarter I guess and only use this on certain ladders or during certain times (etc when more ppl are on) @Archybot <– he is in charge of the matchmaking redesigns.

And this is why I refuse to do anything in matchmaking :) I already implemented a great system that people didn't like. So a big fuck you to all of you guys, you can stick to the shitty first come first server queue system I originally made. It's on Archy to make anything new/updated if he so chooses to.

Honestly i dont care about how the matchmaking works, thats just my preference tho ^. I like the new elo system and I like the old elo system <3

First off, I'd like to start by saying the updates you've got in mind are beautiful; you guys have really thought through this well. That out of the way, here's what I wanted to say:

If you implement your latter option, your server will drop dead within a month. Here's what will happen: first, your chat will become kohi practice plus what it already is, considering people will have to spam "./duel me [hard] [no debuffs] !!!!!!"; your non-donor activity level will take a dive, since they won't even be able to play without the manual dueling; and, with both of these taking effect, your player count and donation level will plummet as well. As much as I, personally, would love all ladders to have unranked sections, it would really, really hurt badlion. It seems like a small change, but it would absolutely have serious repercussions.

A decent solution would be to wait for an even number (proportional to the queue activity) of players to queue, then sort by rating and partition the list. It's far more dynamic than your proposition (@Archybot pls look).

Regarding chat filters: they suck. Always have, always will. People will transition from "easy" -> "ez" -> "e z" -> "esy" -> "eeeeezzzzz" -> whatever else can bypass the filter. If you really want a reasonable solution to chat toxicity then you could:

  • Restrict access to chat to non donators. Only having to police the donators (who paid partly for their chat rights) is a much easier task. You could also bar people from private messaging someone they've fought recently.
  • Introduce a word whitelist. Allow only common positive expressions like "gg", "good", "fight", and so on.
  • Make matches without names (like Kohi's anonymous ladder) and only allow people to see the name of their opponent on the site after half an hour.
  • Remove chat entirely and rename the server Quietlion.

I'd like to ask if this can be taken one step further to accommodate events.

    War:Show remaining players on your team/opposing team after a match. LMS:No changes Slaughter:No changes All:Kill scoreboard/documented statistics on the website, just like Warfare. How many people have you killed in a slaughter, for instance? How many victories, how many losses, etc. This would also include match history. I'm not sure if the warfare code on the website could be copied/pasted for this or if it needs to be reconfigured as well, but I hope it gets added.

Next:UHC Gamemodes (@BurntCactus)

People love UHCs, and from streamers our player count nearly doubles. However, I think UHCs need to push the bounds of MC in order to make them as enjoyable and interesting as possible. I'm NOT saying we should copy the UHC Reddit's gamemodes. However, I think this should be considered to make the future automatic UHCs a bit more diverse. Some suggestions I have are currently:

  • ULTRAHC:Self-explanatory. Gamemode is locked on hardcore, ore rates are decreased, mob rates are increased. The amount of food from animals would be limited (For example, instead of a cow having a guarantee of giving one steak and at max three, disable the guarantee of one and limit the max to two). Also, an increase of silverfish-block spawning, more lava in the nether/agro pigmen, etc. Passive mobs are neutral and will attack you if you attack them.
  • AoN:Pure Vanilla, everything goes.
  • Void:Border expands vertically as well as horizontally, if a player is within the border they will be TP'd, but also take damage if they stay in contact with the border. (In this scenario I would assume vertical border shrinking would stop at y:50, though it can be changed.)
  • Tick-Tock: Failure to complete a task within a set amount of time will result in punishment. (Losing a random item, taking damage, having your location revealed to other players).
  • Flaming Cacti:Cacti will drop from the sky after an hour has passed, cacti damage increased. (Is the second feature possible?)
  • Midas's Touch:At a selected time the entire world will start to become 100% gold from the outside in.This gold cannot be broken.
  • Aliens:After a selected time passive mobs will start "Disappearing" and charged creepers will start naturally spawning in the wild.
  • Stew Power:Eight mushrooms and a bowl will give you a Mushroom Goblet, healing the same as a golden apple. Absorption would be permanently disabled, mushroom spawn rate would be decreased.
  • I know some of these may not be possible or too complicated, but I would love to see them tried out.

    Next:Donator vs Non-donator permissions. (In my opinion)
  • New players to the server should get a free three day trial as a donator to see the perks, enticing them to buy donator when it runs out.
  • For Non-donators, the spam prevention should be upgraded to 3-4 seconds instead of 2.5, I still see people spam 2v2 messages often. Also, add a .5-1 second spam blocker for donators as well, just because they paid doesn't mean they get to spam either.
  • Add more color options for donators (If possible)

  • Now, for my biggest idea:Globalizing Soup Tokens and allow the purchase of certain perks/ranks with them (Similar to OCN's Raindrops)
  • Tokens would be renamed to Bytes (A lion bites into his opponents/food in order to destroy them). I'll try to think of a better name soon
  • Donators and Non-donators would get the same amount of tokens per victory, loss, etc.
  • My version of token rewards/item pricing will hopefully be up tomorrow.
  • Lobby perks along with individual server perks would be implemented.

  • Now, for forum changes:
  • Allow players to hide their infractions from regular users (Staff would still be able to see these). /bminfo would still show active punishments.
  • Link rank-purchasing (Permanent donator) and donator privileges on the forums to automatically make people a website donor.
  • Possibly add fonts/colored words for donators
  • Allow users to add/remove people from PMs
  • Tournament Teams
  • In addition to the automated tournament bracket system, add the groundwork for team tournaments (?)

  • And last but not least, in-game changes.
  • Add tips about /bminfo, /follow, /spectate, and /party help
  • Make tips appear more often
  • Make /rating able to give the rankings of specific players in a ladder. (/ranking AtomicScientist2 uhc)
  • Allow people to customize scenarios in /lms, /war and /slaughter (Its a UHC slaughter, but absorption is off) or (Its Slaughter, but in To2)
  • Do the same for /duels ^
  • Add more food options into the chests/more enchanting options so that /duel and ladder gameplay can be diversified. (Golden carrots for Kohi, Proj. Protection 1-4)
  • [1.8] Allow players to click on certain tags to bring up pages. (If a person clicks on a mod/trial tag, they'll be linked to the application page. If a person clicks on a Famous person's tag, they'll be redirected to their Twitch/YT channel.)

  • I'll try to think of some more later, but for now those are my ideas. :)

    Here is the reasoning behind all of this. When we went "EULA" complaint for the 2 weeks our donations dropped to almost nothing. Everyone was just playing on the unranked ladders and didn't care to donate. Badlion would have shut down if we didn't change it back. Our donations are still very low compared to where they were during the summer (which is somewhat understandable) but we want to give people more incentive to donate. $5/mo isn't really that much, or $30/forever.

    We are trying to keep Badlion Network alive as long as possible. So by changing it to a limit of 20 it allows us to try and motivate more people to donate, and we are at a better situation than before where people couldn't even play unranked ladders of certain types at all. Some people may not want to play more than 20 matches a day anyways (a lot of our player base). The ones that want to spend a lot of time on the network should want to be able to play as much as they want though.

    I am all for coming up with alternative ideas to increase donations and keep Badlion open, but it is very difficult without making the PotionPvP server pay 2 win which we do not want to do, it should be a skill based server, not a "who throws more money at it" server. A perfect example is Hattowolf who used to have 5-6 non-donator accounts on the first page of the ladders each season. He would play 10 matches a day and could still reach the top.

  • THIS! We need more color options in my opinion.

    As for the trial for donator, I don't think so. We can get a free trial for a WEEK for voting for the server which helps it out more :)

    As for all the UHC ideas you suggested that would be entirely up to our devs, but I will say 1 thing, most of the time when we host for streamers the players that come are not UHC regulars. You will see players be killed by wolfs, killed by Cacti, and even drown *cough* @MasterGberry *cough*. Thats why we give starter food and sometimes /heals after 10 minutes into the game.

    I was thinking some of these gamemodes could be for private events, and I understand our players aren't gold star material, but I still think they would be able to learn and become better at the game from this.
