3 ways I do it:

1. When you're trading with them and you're anywhere between 4 to 6 hearts, quickly pull out and debuff them, they'll most likely still be running forwards towards the debuff. With your current health you also have the opportunity to quickly splash a health pot once you've debuffed them.

2. If you want to debuff more defensively, wait until they've gotten you in a small combo, just as you start flying back debuff them. This is how I usually debuff, it's often quite an accurate splash too and the chance of you accidentally hitting yourself is low.

3. If they're insanely bad at the game and don't have a clue on how to avoid debuffs, you can just run back before they've even hit you and debuff them, possibly double them if you can. They'll drop a lot faster.
