How Elo Works - S12 vs S15
not as fun for me but i guess its fun for others to grind more rather then being the better player.

Here's a quick program I wrote up if you want to mess with some ELO calculations (press Tab to edit some stuff and Space to show averages over a set period of time. There are some other buttons but I wrote this a while ago so tbh I forgot)

I didn't know you code 👀👌
I'm not a great coder, but I do, yeah. This is one of my older programs. I work more on C++ and game development than this, but if people start using this program I might revamp it in C++ and make it slightly prettier and user friendly.

Does this new system revolve more nicely around a normal curve or has that whole thing been dropped as an aim to strive for

Well the new system was thrown out in favor of the old one but afaik every Elo system where all players play an equal # of matches will result in a Normal curve. Since both these systems are Elo, a Normal curve should be the theoretical result. Changing the k-value will change the standard deviation for sure, number of matches played might change it to a point? (Elo inflation)

Since by the nature of Arena, most people play a few games max, it's gonna be a pretty mediocre Normal curve. No way to fix that without placements.

I thought that! But I remember there being something weird about how the points were distributed and all and how the whole new not Elo system was supposed to fix that but didn't actually hmmm v interesting tho thanks for replying

This thread's actually a bit out of date, Season 15 was changed back to "32k", so Season 12 ELO = Season 15 ELO now. The only difference is that Season 12 was a lot longer and had a lot more players, so Season 12 ELOs are gonna be sorta inflated (1900 in Build now might be the same as finishing 2100-2200 in Season 12).
