I am NOT looking to go back to old chat, im looking to completely disable the chat so i dont see any chat messages, its too annoying for videos and such

You can go into the chat settings by pressing T or your chat button and clicking the 3 dots button, then the cogwheel icon, "settings" and:
1. Turning the opacity all the way down.
2. Scaling the chat all the way down.

The "default" (old) chat can be set to not show in normal minecraft settings.
