I suggested this in the discord, and now ima suggest it here. When I saw the shields in the badlion store, I thought, "Hmm, it would be cool to defend yourself with a shield with a custom texture in-game" only to hear that it's only a skin cosmetic. I suggest there be a feature that if you are running 1.9 or above, you can turn on a setting to which the shield that you buy overrides your shield texture. I think that would be a cool feature because I occasionally play on servers like Cubecraft that are 1.9+, so using a custom-textured shield that only I (and people who buy the shield) have. Of course, not everyone will use it since the PVP community is split; however, I do think that people like me and others would really enjoy this feature. Just a thought.
