Have you considered adding back the 1.7 rod holding animation? I don't know if it is causing problems or something but you should definitely consider it for the upcoming update in March! :D

Hello,

There is a way of getting the 1.7 rod holding animation on 1.8.9.
Open Options -> Video Settings -> Quality and turn off the 'Custom Items' option.
