So i am using 1.8.9 and I have the optifine box checked but in game the fps is very bad. A couple of says ago it was working perfectly.

Open video settings and check if there are Optifine settings (shaders, quality, detail settings, etc). If you have these settings, it means you still have Optifine.

It's a possibility that the issue is caused by badly configured Optifine. If that's the case, you should reset the Optifine config.
