Shift + 2 and Shift + 6 not working on 1.8.9 - Linux

This is a bug in Linux distributions where holding shift then pressing 2 or 6 will not work. See image below.
This was fixed in MC 1.13, however, 1.8.9 is the favored version for pvp.
