Hitboxes causing lag/FPS drop.

Is it intended for the Hitboxes mod on passive mobs in my base to cause lag? I had been dropping to 45 FPS when I looked at the core of my base, and only this location.I play with hitboxes turned on fulltime, but realized yesterday they may be responsible. So I toggled them off, and my FPS went up around 25-30.
I then changed the settings to only show hitboxes on hostile monsters, and removed all passive mobs, items, etc.
I know this sounds kind of ridiculous, but i've got used to playing with them, and can handle playing without them if necessary.
But, out of my own curiosity, was wondering if there is a reason, or if there is. Maybe someone can explain to me why.
I also had the "hitboxes from 1.7" option turned on in the "Animations" mod, as it removed the blue and red lines from the hitbox.
Any input would be appreciated, as I spent so much time trying to figure it out, only to have it be my hitboxes the entire time.
