Question about Tourney Seeding

How do the tourney seeds work? I've looked through the people who have signed up and the #1 seed would be VelocittyHD, and according to the ladders, I'd be #2 seed. I know we'd both receieve byes, but wouldn't we be near eachother in the brackets and have to face eachother pretty early in the tournament?
