A new factions concept
This is the second time I am writing this. The first time I was trying to capitalize an 'r', but I hit the evil ctrl + r and refreshed the page. rip

Also note: This post is not official of any kind, we're not thinking about implementing this atm.

Heyo

So recently I have been thinking about a new style of factions. In keywords, it has no world border, infinite /homes and a tracking system. I'll quickly and roughly go over on how this will work in this post. Tell me whether you like it or not.

How does it work?
It is a vanilla factions server. I want to put the greatness of single player vanilla Minecraft (exploration, adventure, ungriefed landscape, ability to express your creativity) together with the current vanilla factions (raiding, wars, PvP, TNT). This is done by removing the world border, so you could literally make your base 100.000 blocks out or even further. You will mine in empty caves, walk in unexplored area, etc. Obviously there is a problem. Factions will namely be too hard to find. So hereby I am introducing the tracking system.

How do I track?
You can track using 'pings'. Pings have nothing to do with internet, no, they are a value. You can spend it, earn it, etc. To obtain pings you can buy them, and you can spend them for tracking. Tracking a faction costs a certain amount of pings, and that 'amount' is determined by a few variables. To name a few: the faction power and the amount of members in that faction. So, the more power a faction has, and the more players it consists of, the more expensive tracking that faction becomes.

Like money, you can also deposit pings in your faction bank. The more pings you have deposited, the more pings it will cost for a raider to track your faction. So, another variable to making your faction harder to track, is to deposit a lot of pings in your bank. This also gives factions the ability to have a defensive or offense game style.

Tracking really is an end-game thing. You need an expensive structure to even start thinking about doing it, not to mention the cost of 'pings'.

How do I raid?
Betrayal is allowed, and players can claim the enemies faction land if their land > power. Basically, the rest of the concept is just vanilla factions. You protect your base using obsidian and water, and raiders can blow it up using TNT. A downside of this concept is that it might take a long time to walk towards your newly tracked faction, which can be boring. Unlimited /homes are partly to counter that. Maybe custom teleports to certain parts of the map may become possible too. This is not certain.

Get it? I hope so :P I probably forgot something or two. As I have said, this is just a short and rough thread to something very big. I hope you see where I am coming from though ;)

Please answer these 3 strawpolls, and be as honest as you could be.
  • Do you like it? - http://strawpoll.me/4424307
  • Would you play on a server with it? - http://strawpoll.me/4424299
  • Do you think it would be successful? - http://strawpoll.me/4424310

  • Please leave constructive criticism, flaws and questions (if any) as a response. Thanks for reading ;)

If you make it borderless you end up with near no raiding as no-one can ever find each other as the bases are so far apart you just never up finding anything. In my opinion, looking at vanilla TnT servers, they are past their sell by date by some time (Gontroller - looking at 70 player peaks, originmc - 200 player over 2 servers (The largest I have knowledge of right now) and others like severepvp are just completely gone now) . I'd love to +1, but I feel this wouldn't get anywhere near as many players as you'd like it to :(

I'd play it, but all the good factions from kohi/hcteams are banned for hacking. That's why badlion HCF didn't get to anything I think.

Well yea, but that's why tracking is included. You're not supposed to just 'find' a base, as in stumbling upon one. You're supposed to track one down

I'm aware, but it just seems a little hard to raid. Interested to see how this unfolds :)

Maybe if when buying a ping pass, it teleports you 50 blocks outside of their claimed land?
