Archer ladder improvements
Now, I've been playing on the Archer ladder for a long time and know a lot of different tactics and playstyles for it. Recently, however, I've been seeing more and more of a certain tactic that irks me. I've lost a lot of matches to people that pearl and bowspam while strafing. Here's a different way to handle damage to possibly counter that:

20+ blocks = 3.5 hearts
≤20 blocks = 2 hearts
≤10 blocks = 1 heart

Thoughts?
I'd prefer answers from Archer ladder regulars, but anyone can comment.

I like the idea. Maybe a 60+ blocks with 5 hearts also.

Funnily enough, that was my original suggestion.

[6/6/14, 1:32:36 PM] Metrais: After some frustration on the Archer ladder today, what do you think of these possible changes:

If a shot hits from:
50+ blocks– 5 hearts dealt
25-50 blocks– 3.5 hearts dealt
10-25 blocks– 2 hearts dealt
<10 blocks– 1 heart dealt

I'd certainly like it.

-1, it is a legitimate strategy.

I like the idea a lot. I'd like it if it showed somewhere like on your hotbar what your last shot was (maybe give the amount of xp levels to the player from their last shot matching the distance then resetting and showing a different number when shot differently). This would help you know how many more times you need to shoot them.

The shocker here is that people play archer ._.

+1 I don't enjoy playing matches where people pearl to you and bow spam. People could still do it, but it would make the better archers have the upper hand, and that's the point of this ladder.

Might be a legit tactic, but if better players lose to worse players because of it, that kinda remove the point and might keep people away.

It is a legitimate strategy the same way block hitting and crit spamming are in vanilla. You don't see those being removed anytime soon, do you?

To be honest, a better comparison would be to camp with punch 2 bows and knockback 2 swords in Vanilla. It's a legitimate tactic, but in a vanilla archery situation, the pearl and bow spam tactic would deal little to no damage. Do you want people that would be terrible in an actual bow fight to take #1 on the ladder?

It actually requires skill to do, so people that are terrible won't be able to take #1. Anyways, there is a very easy counter to it if you think hard enough.

Lol. The reason those are not being removed is because it's part of vanilla minecraft. Theres block hitting/crits on every server and we try to keep it like that. Now for archer, the only server with a archer plugin (HCF) is based of range distance. This is OUR ladder, we can change whatever we want, it doesn't matter whether or not it's a legit tactic or not. Do you see a server where people can pearl at each other and strafe left and right with a bow in a leather kit? Nope.

You can do that on any server…

But is it effective on other servers?

The point is, it's an easy way to win fights when you truly aren't any good. It requires a lot of strafing and aiming to be good at ranges that people generally fight at. If you go ahead and do the same thing on other servers that don't use Badlion's plugin, you're obviously going to get destroyed.

This was the old style of Archer ladder, and was replaced because it was just not fair or balanced. Also im too lazy to change this atm, got other things to worry about.

MasterGberry should become a Bacca fanboy and add an MCSG event
"I like that idea OBraveOne!" says everyone

I hate to say it, but this was one of the reasons I have stopped playing Badlion. The matches where skill was actually put to the test were few and far between. Obviously, I recognize that bowspamming does require a level of skill, and yes, it is a tactic and form of archery, but it is not what I would like to do or play against personally. Also, countering it is fairly easy. The second you see them pearl at you, pearl up and away from them, if you're fast enough, you'll be able to hit them when their pearl lands in front of you, and you will teleport away, and you will be able to get a second, easy hit. It's not simple, and definitely takes practice, but is quite effective once you get good at it. However, it is still not something I enjoy doing, as it is not why I got into Archery in the first place.

Yep, it's easy enough to counter, but it's just frustrating to lose what may have been an advantageous position.

Yea I understand, and I am agreeing with your sentiment. I was just trying to play Devil's Advocate in saying that it can be countered, but it is not what I would like to see out of the Archer Ladder.
