One of the first things to do is to make sure your Internet Service Provider (ISP) isn't doing something stupid with your internet routing. You can use the following steps to change your computer's DNS to use Google's DNS servers which are more reliable, and don't do anything silly. Follow Google's guide below for your operating system:
