Unranked Combo Selection Item Broken in 1.8

I think this is a 1.8 glitch of some sort, the pufferfish that should represent unranked combo is that purple and black error cube. I'm playing in 1.8.8, so I imagine that this is an issue specific to 1.8 clients (the pufferfish shows up in 1.7.10).
