Punching people in Archer?

You can punch people with if you hold an arrow in your hand in Archer, which you couldn't previously do.Is this a bug or a new feature? If it's the latter, why on earth would put melee into the one pure bow-based ladder? It does a lot of damage considering how weak leather armor is
