When you log on with a 1.7.10 client, you are connected to a server where there are 1.7.10 and 1.8.1 players. On a 1.8.1 client, you will not be able to use 1.8.1 things but you will be able to use all 1.7 things. 1.8.1 features do not work on 1.7 servers.If you are lagging on 1.8.1, use 1.7.10. Your lag will be fixed and you will play with the same players.
