1.9 can't connect

Hi,I'm new to the server, to the point where I've never actually played on it. I was planning on trying it out, but when I connected, all I saw was a message telling me to connect using 1.9. As I was already on 1.9, I tried simply reconnecting, as well as restarting my game entirely. Whenever I connect it's the same thing, and I'm not able to connect to any servers. Thanks,

Here's a suggestion.Go to your Minecraft Launcher and click on profiles, than change your version to 1.9, than click save profile, and play game.
You can't join 1.9 while being 1.7/8, and can we have the error message that pops up in your chat besides a screenshot of you
in the lobby? It would help both of us find out what here is wrong.
