Hey guys. This will be the first post in many to come of community feedback threads. In this community feedback thread I would like to sit down and talk about the Oceania Region (our AU playerbase). NA/EU PLEASE STAY OUT OF THIS THREAD. Thanks :)
Some statistics before I start rambling on:
In the past week on Badlion we had a total of 471808 unique users log into Badlion.
Of the 471808 unique users there were:
Australia: 7325
New Zealand: 1701
Other misc: 500-1000 (accounting for some random assorted nearby countries)
So in total let's say that it was 10000 approximately. This means the Oceania region of Badlion in the past week consisted of 2.45% of the population for Badlion.
Pulling some statistics from League of Legends (popular game with a large diverse player base):
There are approximately 1.8% of players from the Oceania Region.
Doing another statistic based on the world population of North America and Europe and comparing that to the Oceania Region:
Of the three regions populations you end up with about 1.8% of the population in Oceania.
Now looking at the Purchases on Badlion since Buycraft started tracking country location for purchases: 7.36% of the purchases made since this data was starting to be tracked are from Oceania. Of these purchases the amount of money made from the purchases are 3.6% of total money made from Badlion purchases. So this means that the average purchase for the Oceania region is not as large as other regions since the amount of money made from Oceania purchases does not match the % of purchases made in Oceania.
=================
We really believe in being honest and open with the community here at Badlion. I am not going back and modifying any of my post as I am writing this. I actually did not expect the purchase % to be so high for Oceania. I expected it to be around the same 2% range that all of the other numbers above showed).
So. Let's get down to the actual discussion area of Oceania from a community and a business perspective.
Pros to Oceania
- Larger Footprint for Badlion
- High purchase area for Badlion
Cons of Oceania
- Inreased server bills compard to other regions
- Small player base makes it difficult to add new game modes (we just divide the existing population)
- Small percentage of overall players on Badlion
- Difficult to manage the networking (Shitty internet quality)
- Known to be extremely toxic (community issues)
There are other areas that we could talk about in terms of the pros/cons, but for the purpose of this initial post I wanted to keep it short and high level.
To be flat out honest, the cons are a huge reason why Oceania does not get as much attention as our primary regions. I already learned from this post that the Oceania region does well in terms of purchases to Badlion. We don't have any amazing tools for deploying game modes yet to different regions/servers (this is something we need to build to make it easier).
So now I would like to open up a community discussion on the matter as to what people think are the pros/cons to Oceania. I would also like to kindly request that only people who live in the Oceania region participate in this discussion (NA and EU please stay out).
What do you think can be done to make Oceania better?
What can we do to increase the number of players in Oceania further than we already have?
What is the existing competition for Oceania Minecraft servers? How can we help bring more of those players to Badlion?
For such a small player population what do you think we could do to increase the number of purchases in the Oceania region to offer better support to Oceania?
What would make more repeat purchases in the Oceania region to offer better support to the Oceania region?
What would make people want to purchase higher packages in the Oceania region?
I am interested in reading some long answers to this topic based on all of the information I have provided. With a smaller community of people comes a more tight nit community. More tight nit communities are usually more likely to support financially the services they are using. We would like to increase the player population pool in Oceania and also try to convert more users into paid users to offer more resources to Oceania. Reality is it takes us a lot of time/work to maintain Oceania.
EDIT: I will be heavily monitoring this thread and deleting all responses that are not from the Oceania region.

Something that might add more competitiveness to the au community is what I have suggested here: https://www.badlion.net/forum/thread/105722Posted on 09 May 2016 - 09:17 AM
I understand about cost and stuff but think about sweating badlion with 200msLast edited on 09 May 2016 - 09:19 AM by Zamario
Ok so there is a few things i belive badlion need to realize about the oceanic region first off u need a really god damm expensive computer for au badlion you need a good computer for example for me i have a average laptop usually 150fps in survial and 60-100fps on the au arena however the uhc themslevesI averge 10-30 fps which is horrible lile unvearable so what can badlion do well i belive if you put the time and money (from au's buycraft purcheses) into au servers i do belive u will see a drastic increses in people playing on au people with a large lot of thoose people, people like me who own an average computer who would like to play badlion uhc's.

Considering Australia makes up like 0.33% of the worlds population, I think 2.45% is good haha.I think what AU wants right now is to be included with the other regions. AU is constantly experiencing server crashes, cancelled UHC's and sometimes we don't even get the other gamemodes that other regions have. Obviously this is not all badlion's fault but things like AU scheduling and stuff like that would probably bring more players.
As far as other servers go, there aren't many other big AU servers anymore considering MCSG is shut down.
Overall I think what AU want's most is to not be neglected. We want organisation and we want to get stuff when EU and NA do. We want better connection (even though you cant do much about that)
Also with the community thing, you can't really do much to prevent the toxic community other than tend to their wants and needs.

More attentive and caring mods. Now days it feels like mods and hosts are applying for personal satisfaction and not the overall well being of the server. I don't want to name any mods/hosts but some really don't give a shit about AU. eg. Catching extremely obvious hackers (Well known to the community), and overall just doing it for the name-tag. Don't get me wrong were extremely thankful for the time they put into the server but sometimes the motivation isn't there.Posted on 09 May 2016 - 09:53 AM
Hey GBerry :>,We have had many promises of games coming to AU (e.g: Mini's) and we would definitely like it.
1) Australia will never stop dropping out (Its apart of us) The internet in AU is definitely the worst in the world so we are going to have shitty internet, but guess what we still enjoy playing badlion because its pretty much out last big AU PvP server ;-;.
2)I have no idea how we could increase players, I thought of merging with MCSG but since we have Kohi its really no use, but for that we could increase by getting more social media account (e.g: Instagram, Facebook, Tumblr??xD)
3)We don't have any competition really anymore, there arent really anymore PvP servers for AU anymore, we ARE the biggest tbh)
4)I feel like we should maybe lower the prices for AU as many people CAN NOT afford to pay $100 for Lion, also we could put more things into Lion ranks (e.g: cosmetics, privileges)
5)As i said in the question above, lower prices, we can not afford, but it is good that you get Lion perm if you buy enough 30days :D
6)Nothing really tbh, its just that the prices are very high. Sorry

I and many of my friends who play Badlion live in Western Australia the opposite side to where the AU server is hosted. Therefore for instance I get roughly 100ms lately since Badlion merged with KOHI and on other AU servers I get around 80ms. Before KOHI merged I used to get around 80ms. This makes things very difficult to have fun playing if your just getting ghost killed all the time. Since I started playing Badlion my ping has been slowly rising and it's at its worst now. This has been the same for my WA friends aswell. There's probably not much you can do about it but it's just a thought.
Yours Sincerely
Brandon

We are going to be reworking the anti-xray system very soon. The reworked anti-xray system will increase FPS behavior on all computers across all regions. This is not an AU specific issue.

Maybe add in more mini games for AU as we're left out from the rest of the world (NA and EU )Posted on 09 May 2016 - 10:33 AM

Right now as mentioned above we don't have a proper deployment system. Therefore this coupled with the AU internet issues it is annoying and difficult to add game modes to AU. This is also why there are random DB crashes etc. We can't control the internet quality.
In terms of adding new game modes a major issue with adding them to AU is that there is not a large enough or active enough player base in order to make them all succeed. We could add 20 game modes to AU but that just divides the existing AU player base. We need a much larger average # of weekly users (like 2-3x what we have now) in order to make AU more of an overall success.

1. We actually are going to install the MiniUHC's today/tomorrow. I just reviewed what we need to do with @SmellyPenguin
2. Not sure about the idea of making region specific social media accounts at the moment. Maybe we could add region specific forums in the future though.
3. Are there any other smaller servers (~100 players or so during peak) that we could help to bring in to create one larger Oceania region?
4. We can't allow for lower prices depending on region. We could add more incentives for ranks though.
5. Answered already.

Would be interesting to see how many people are living in Western Australia vs Eastern
