So ever since the merge I've been playing some build uhc and I'm pretty decent but I'd like some tips considering I'm still pretty shitty, I've killed a few 1.6k-17ks who said I was alright but I think it's the fact that I can hot key really well that gets me some lucky wins. Any sort of advice for a beginner to build uhc would help greatly, thanks.Hertz

the only real advice I have to offer is a) jitterclick and b) just practice, you can only get good by practicing. A really helpful thing is to watch people known for being good like youtube.com/user/ImDantelius or youtube.com/user/Hivlik

Build is mainly all rodding in melee to be honest, my friend rods like a 2k but is not that good at melee so he's 1400 O_o. His tips are:
1. Only rod when they are not in melee range (3 blocks). This is because you can get hit while rodding, and if you miss it then you'll probably lose a few hits which could be important in both the trade and later on.
2. Prediction - rods don't cast that fast compared to things like pots for example, so rod a where they are going.
Bowing:
1. At the start of the fight keep to the bow as long as possible till you engage in melee, you do this to drain their healing, therefore giving you a golden head / Apple more than then.
Using this strategy, you should gap as late as you can, utilising the regeneration and absorption to their full extent.
2. However, if someone is significantly better at you at bow, wall up but remember to make sure your wall is at least 3 high and 2 wide which people normally do, but the thing people often forget is to put 2 blocks towards you on the top blocks, therefore you won't get bowspammed by them people who shoot upwards. I also sometimes put water down when they are like a few blocks away, and when it has fully spreaded I pick it back up again, so they are stuck in water, allowing me to get a couple of extra hits on them or get a few bow shots in.
3. A technique used by Doe I found somewhere on a thread: for example strafe to the left 3 times, and since your opponent will anticipate another strafe, stand still and take time to aim and get a shot.
4. Another tip from Doe - if your opponent has a statue strafe where they barely move at all, just shoot when they are about to shoot their bow.
5. Pull your bow back to the first drawback thingy (I don't know what to call it ples don't hurt meh T_T) and shoot them, therefore you can check their health which is useful to decide whether to continue the fight or run, which will be covered later.
Sword:
Since you talked about the merge I assume you come from Kohi ( like me :D ) so I guess you can do basic pot things like jitter click and hotkey, both if these will help immensely. I'm probably just bad at giving tips because all I can say for sword is don't straight-line, you can be easily caught out by rods and lava buckets. Instead, this is cliché I know, but strafe and I think wtapping and stapping work in Build UHC too.
Running:
There's not a huge deal to say for running from fights, I only can say a few things:
1. Water - place water down to hinder their movement, they'll be really slow moving and it will be hard to catch you. Keep in mind, a lot of experienced players will block up the water by jumping over and placing blocks, they will also get to you faster but as they will be looking down at the ground to place blocks take the opportunity to rod them back.
2. Rodding - rods can be used for both offensive and defensive purposes, this one defensive. If you're good / decent at rodding do a 180 rod, simply turn back, rod, then run. This strategy is quite efficient as when you're being chased people only run in a straight line and don't strafe, so you'll nearly always hit them.
3. This only works on certain maps such as the end one with obsidian pillars, runto the side of the pillar where the red wool is nearest and quickly block the whole space up, 3 blocks from the obsidian to the wool. I seriously doubt anyone keeps a pickaxe in their hotbar, so you'll have a few seconds to regen.
Hotbar:
Hotbar is mainly just preference, my one goes:
1. Sword
2. Lava bucket
3. Rod
4. Water bucket
5. Water bucket
6. Bow
7. Blocks
8. Golden Heads
9. Golden Apples
There is no best hotbar, just use one which works well for you and feels comfortable / easy to access important items.
Thanks for reading, hope it helped Hertz (This took me over an hour as I was bored and on the bus - don't judge :D). As said in a post above, watch good players - I recommend Danteh and Hivlik - and don't be scared to ask for advice from players. Good luck with your builduhc!!!
Btw if anyone is wondering why I have such shitty elo is because I dropped it, I intend to do so again to drain the fucking living out of people

1) people will tell you that spacing stuff doesnt matter, but it does, if you rod too close it does nothing and you get combod so back upand dont jitterclick until your confident without clicking fast
if you are going for high elo go and click fast

if they pre gap bow them so its a waste of a gap.if possible count when ever someone gaps so u know there healing.
use lava then crit them out while they are on fire. does so much extra damage.
try and strafe trick you opponent. try get that first combo.
this is what i do :p hope it helps!
