Season 5 Coming to an end early
We tried something different this season, we implemented a new rating system. We did some research on it, but not nearly enough research. The main issues with this new rating system are explained below and why each of them is happening.

1. You can lose rating for winning. (This is because you had a low chance of losing the game and the system thinks you belong where you are at)
2. You gain and lose large amounts of rating at a time. (When you first start playing, your earlier matches count more than your later matches do, therefore you shift a lot).
3. You don't gain or lose much once you have a couple of hundred games. (This actually only happens when you win one game and lose one game each time, because once again, the system thinks you are where you belong. You have to win or lose many in a row to start gaining/losing more points again).

We have decided to re-implement ELO, as it seems the majority of players enjoyed it better, but we are doing a few things differently. We will be modifying the ELO system directly this time around instead of trying a new rating system to fix the core problems that are in ELO.

1. ELO Anxiety (Fear of losing to a 1400 hacker as a 2000 rated player). We will address this by accounting for the number of games each player has played, and adjust the rating won/lost to each player accordingly. The winning player (even if its a hacker [and he/she will get caught]) with the 1400 rating will not be punished for winning, and still get the full 32 points. The loser (the 2000 rated player) on the other hand will not lose 32 points, and if for instance had 200 games already, will only lose 4-6 points rather than the full 32 (since this person seems to be where he should).
2. Matchmaking. The old matchmaking system (matching the first 2 people it found) was built over a year ago when ranked was first added to Badlion. We NEVER imagined to get as big as we are now, and as a result have finally gone back to revisit the matchmaking system. This matchmaking system is already in effect, and needs another small tweak or two and it will be completely done (Avoid issues where people have to wait a couple of minutes to get a match). This new matchmaking system tries to match players who are closer in rating together, which will also compliment issue #1 with ELO.

That is all for now, ratings will be reset at 8/8/14 11:59 PM EST with a short downtime (probably around 5 minutes) and then will be ready for season 6. Same as always, unlimited ranked matches Friday/Saturday for the end/start to the seasons.

TL;DRNew Rating system isn't working how we wanted it to. ELO is bring brought back with a few hotfixes to it. New matchmaking is staying and will be bug fixed.

No, we won't reset FFA stats again (for a while). We only did that because it had 1. been a long time and 2. new rating system

Sometimes idc about losing 30 elo, but i care about losing 1 death on my profile on the website, and this problem can only be fixed, by allowing moderators to ban in ranked matches.

And what happens if a mod incorrectly bans someone, and that person now has 1 death?

You wouldn't understand. Considering everytime you commit to the repo you break half of the servers. There are programmers out there who don't constantly push non-compiling code or un-tested code to master branches.

Yes, this happens usually 2-3 months but this season (1 month) was ended early due to the mass issues with the new rating system that we implemented.

Let's have a non-existant situation in which nobody online, matches your rating. What will happend at that event?
