Reviving the Save Badlion Vanilla Official Thread
Posted on 23 May 2016 - 04:35 PM
This is Sprint's thread, I take no credit. I just wanted this thread to be revived and the original can be found here: https://www.badlion.net/forum/thread/70726Hi, and welcome to the OFFICIAL SAVE BADLION VANILLA FOUNDATION.
Purpose, and backstory of Vanilla.
You may be wondering, what is the point of this thread, and what do I want to accomplish? Well, I am trying to revive the most original and now dying ladder, vanilla. Vanilla was one of the three original original ladders of Badlion, which were Legacy, Vanilla, and HCF. Vanilla is the last surviving of the three.
Vanilla was the most popular ladder for quite a long period in Badlion's history. It was formed in 2013 when the ELO system first came to life, and the ladder was a hit and loved by the PotPvP community, which used to be 100% of Badlion. For the longest time, your Vanilla ELO defined your skill on Badlion, as it was the most played ladder. People took their vanilla ELO very seriously, me included, and fought for high rankings on the boards, Badlion was filled with many skilled vanilla players. This went on for over a year, then, the IronOCN ladder, was added, and Badlion flooded in with non-pot players. Then the UHC gamemode and ladders were added, then SG, and Badlion began to fill up with UHC/OCN/SG players, and Vanilla ladder lost its throne of being the most popular ladder. It began to lose lots of popularity when Badlion began to lag, which was horrid for pots. After the lag was fixed, most of the pot players stopped playing Vanilla, and here we are now, vanilla is dying fast, and what was once a highly competitive ladder filled with high ELO players, and several in the queue ready to fight, to a ladder where it is difficult to find a fight, and when you do, 9/10 times it is a random 1400s or 1300s player who just gets tossed in a matter of seconds. I want to change this.
It is time to act now, and bring the vanilla ladder back to life.
Yes, I know, most of you now are UHC or SG players, who love to play your BuildUHC ladder. However, I think it would be great if you gave Vanilla a chance, and made an attempt to learn how to play it and gain some ELO in it. Give it a shot, Vanilla offers an original Badlion experience, and is a ladder like no other. After seeing this post, I hope you take the time to play Vanilla, and learn the ladder and bring the competitiveness back to Badlion Vanilla, and Badlion PotPvP in general. Once Badlion had stopped lagging for me, I instantly played Vanilla and had a blast, I got high ELO quickly, but noticed a lack of skilled players in it, which motivated me to make this. COME PLAY VANILLA AND MAKE IT COMPETITIVE AGAIN.
Sounds great, but I am new to this kind of PvP, how can I be good at Vanilla?
Ah, some of you here may already be original players like me, and know how to play vanilla skillfully, and many of you may need some help getting started. Luckily, I will offer a bit of help with this mini-tutorial.
Being good at Vanilla takes time and practice, and a lot of experience and knowledge of the ladder, however I will share some basic tips with you guys on how to play. Note that I am one of the best Vanilla players to ever play Badlion, reaching 2100s on 5+ accounts in Season 7, and now making a comeback now that my lag is fixed, easily reaching top 10 very quickly.
1. Don't bring a bow.
This may be a foreign concept to many of you UHC players here, but a bow does basically little damage and gives you virtually no advantage in vanilla, you are just wasting space where you could be bringing debuffs and health pots.
2. Don't bring a fishing rod.
Yes, they could help you a slight, however for the most part they aren't worth the extra slot and are easily countered in vanilla, and allows your opponent to get more hits on you easily, shitting on your armor, which degrades quickly in this style of play.
3. Hitting your opponent and pot conservation.
In vanilla, you want to attempt to break your opponent's helmet first, or make them run out of pots first, or simply quick drop them. This requires that you keep your opponent in combos often, and do not let them get any free hits. Try to single pot as often as possible, and do NOT waste healthpots, because if you run out, you're fucked.
4. Debuffing.
Debuffs are a vital part of Vanilla, and using them correctly could be the difference between winning and getting shit on.
-Poison I
Poison I pots are great to keep your opponent taking damage at all times, I would highly recommend putting at least one in your kit.
-Regen II
Never use these as a buff, use them as a debuff to knock out your opponent's regen extended. These can be used to deal out extra damage to your opponent's HP amount. However, I do not use these and I would rather have the extra HPs.
-Slowness
These are important, bring at least one, these can be used to slow your opponent and easily combo them.
-Weakness
Many say this is useless, however it isn't, these make your opponent do less damage to your armor.
-Poison II
Like to quickdrop? These are for you. These are great to use when you want your opponent to panic, some bring these and large amounts and use them the whole fight. It is a good strategy, however I prefer extended and only bring one of these. These can also be used to knock out a Poison I something threw at you.
5. Your kit.
There are many kits to choose from depending on your play style, however I would recommend something like this, some people love my kit and know how to use it correctly, others think it is cancer and play much differently. Personal preference and opinion.
My kit:
(Debuffs: 2 Poison I, 1 Weakness I, 1 Slowness I, 1 Poison II)
6. FOV.
I can not stress this enough, do not use a shitty FOV. I would recommend 70 (normal FOV) but do not use ANYTHING above 80 for any sort of speed II PvP, it does not help you at all, it makes you worse.
7. Knockback
Don't use it, you get less hits, and it is very scrubbish and frowned upon.
8. Buffs
Bring at two rounds of buffs if you are feeling aggressive and want to risk it, bring three if you do not ever want to risk running out of buffs. Always bring three rounds of regen though. I would recommend using all drinkable buffs except for regen, which splash lasts just as long as the drinkables and is easy to repot if it is knocked out by a regen II. Splash or drinkable fire res is personal preference. Only bring one fire res.
9. Any other questions or suggestions for the tutorial? Post below and I will add it in if I see it is fit.
TL:DR/Conclusion
Vanilla is dying, it is a great ladder, and I invite you all to come play it, it seems to be forgotten so I am reminding the community of how fun it is and requesting newer players with no vanilla experience to come give it a try.

Vanilla is gross, half the match is literally circling your opponent trying to bait their debuffs.Posted on 24 May 2016 - 07:20 AM
If people spam debuffs as much as some claim, then surely they wouldn't have many health pots and it wouldn't be hard to win…
