[Ladder Suggestion] The Walls Ladder
Introduction:

Hello, FloppehFeesh here once again. You may remember back when I suggested the MCSG ladder. I am here again with another kit suggestion based off of a server. This time the kit is based off of the MCTheWalls server. Try not to get this confused with other "The Walls" game modes that you may find on other servers. My vision for this kit was for it to be closely based off of items that are very common to see in MCTheWalls tournaments. I really wanted to replicate the feel of playing with items that you normally would get in such tournaments, and this is what I came up with.

I am still open to suggestions, so please, I love any type of feedback! Here is "The Walls" kit.

Inventory:

This kit is an automatic kit just like the Iron OCN or Archon ladder, it is not a customizable kit! I will try to update this with the most recent version of the kit whenever I can.

I tried to make the inventory layout something that most players like, if you think it would be better a different way, let me know!

Armor:

Iron Helmet (Protection I)
Iron Chestplate (Protection I)
Iron Leggings (Protection I)
Iron Boots (Protection I)

Items:

Diamond Sword (Sharpness I)
Bow (Power II)
Bow (Flame I)
Fishing Rod
Enchanted Golden "God" Apple (2)
Cooked Porkchop (8)
Ender Pearl (4)
Arrows (24)

Information:

Kit History and Design

As soon as I wanted to make this kit I contacted Zedyat, a friend who has played on MCTheWalls for a very long time. We discussed a bit and when I asked him what he thinks a Badlion kit would look like that was based off of The Walls. He sent me this.

Of course, the flint 'n' steel, water bucket, and lava bucket all had to be removed due to the limitation of Badlion. Those were removed, making the newer version, and the first testable version.

I tested this version with DivineWolv and latiku3 for a little bit and realized that it worked out quite nicely. I noticed that a lot of kiting as involved in the meta game so I thought that adding a fishing rod might be a good idea. It made sense to, although it isn't used in combat too often in the walls, many times players will try to fish for strong items. It would make sense for a fishing rod to be in the inventory. That made this version.

How This Kit Resembles The Walls

In MCTheWalls tournaments enchants are always seen, but high level enchants are rarely seen. This explains why the sword is Sharpness I and the armor is Protection I. The bow is power II because that is usually a priority when players attempt for better enchants. The Flame Bow is from a kit in MCTheWalls, which is very common. The same goes for the Ender Pearls, but usually you won't see too many owned by one player.

Usually, in tournament, players may end up have 1-3 god apples in the late game. This is because of farming gold, which I won't go to in depth on, but in a nutshell on MCTheWalls you can farm gold constantly which let's you get these powerful apples.

I added the fishing rod not because it is used in combat in The Walls, but because players are usually in possession of one a lot of the time.

The arrow count and Cooked Porkchop count doesn't matter all too much. I gave a decent amount of food which will, without a doubt, last you throughout an entire 1v1 on Badlion. You also wouldn't see huge amounts of food in The Walls. The arrow count is balanced and seems to work well through testing the kit.

Kit Analysis and Gameplay

This kit is very unique compared to others. You have to account for a lot of things: Ender Pearl count of yourself and your enemy, arrow count, god apple count, and more. You have to make sure that all of your Ender Pearls are used for only the most needed moment due to your limited amount. You always have to be wary of when your enemy ate his god apple and when you should eat yours. You have to use your fishing rod wisely when kiting, running from, or chasing your enemy.

It may seem as if the Flame Bow in the kit is useless do to the fire resistance that the God Apples provide, but the Flame Bow actually plays a huge part in the early bow fight, and can easily decide who is first forced to eat an apple.

The Ender Pearls are also another interesting case. Before you eat any of your god apples your pearls will do the normal 2.5 hearts of fall damage, but after you eat one of your apples the resistance reduces the damage by much more than you'd think.

The Fishing Rod in this kit adds another level of skill. With Fishing Rods it make kiting and related things a lot more interesting and something that you have to think more about. Also, fishing rods will wear down armor durability, so it is very possible that a 1v1 in this ladder can go until a helmet is broken!

A lot of the kit and it's game play is centered around how the god apples play. Without god apples, it isn't really a "The Walls" (MCTheWalls) kit, and I think it would really ruin how unique the kit is with god apples. It adds different strategies in my opinion.

I like it. The god apples makes this kit more unique and different than the other ladders.

We're actually working on getting fire to work soon.

I like it, it looks like it would make for great gameplay on the non-pot/automated ladders.

Very interesting kit. This should make for some nice gameplay; I'd like to see it added.

This is great to know, but I don't think a Flint 'n' Steel or any of the extra items in Version 0.1 would work well for this kit.

It would be great to see something like three or so fire charges in the MCSG ladder though!

Can you describe how the fire charges work in MCSG? Or is it just regular vanilla where you can put them on the ground?

Also great post w/ lots of detail as always @FloppehFeesh

Can you link some communities that use this kit? We want to make sure the kits appeal to the widest variety of players.

In MCSG the fire charges should work like they do in vanilla Minecraft, but you should really have limited uses (2-4). In MCSG flint 'n' steel is actually used, but I think fire charges are an easy substitute and make it easier to limit the amount used. Also, The Walls kit is mainly based off of the items that are common in tournaments hosted here. The community is a lot more small than what it used to be, though.

Fire charges don't do anything in vanilla minecraft unless they are shot from inside a dispenser.

I can. I can also make it so you are never able to hit anyone in the game :)

Don't tempt me.

There is a difference between can't and "has different priorities".

Got any larger communities in mind that we should be adding to our pratice servers?

Oh, I remember them acting like Flint 'n' Steel… guess I was wrong. You are going to have to limit the durability on Flint 'n' Steel.
