Improving at Archer (tips)
Hey, I'm here to discuss tips at getting better at Archer ladder. I just reread @greywalk 's Archer tips post that was for some reason in my bookmarked pages and decided to make one of my own. Not completely to inform everyone else, I just kinda want to note them down so I don't forget about them lel.
Of course, I'm not the best at Archer but I think I'm pretty good.
Leave me a comment if you think I missed something.

Fundamental Basics
Of course, everyone's probably aware of this trick, but you can dodge incoming arrows. What you need to do is to turn on hitboxes, (f3 + B) get to a location where no blocks or structures are interfering with your vision, and stay long range. When you see an arrow moving toward you, walk out of it's path. Focus on improving at this before your aim, because the #1 rule in any bow game is to not get hit. Make dodging your first priority, even if you're about to shoot an arrow.

Archer is mainly about bow aim and dodging, not strafing, for various reasons you'll figure out. Therefore, it isn't necessary to have an unbeatable strafe to be successful at this ladder. It helps, of course, but isn't a necessity. Focusing more on aiming at your opponent as opposed to strafing will help you. As long as you aren't standing statue-still or just left-right-left-right strafing, you'll be okay.

Improve at long range before you start on short range

Distances Going to discuss what you should probably do at each distance (farthest to shortest)

Very Far This range is basically the distance from one side of a semi-large map to the other. Probably would be wise to move in a little closer, even the most inept of archers would be able to walk out of the path of an arrow heading towards them. As a result, not much happens here.
Far This is where the action starts unfolding. You're gonna be dodging, and aiming. Maximum damage per shot is inflicted here (2.5 hearts per ful-charged bow shot). Make sure you don't get hit.
Midrange Risky zone to be fighting in. It's harder to dodge here, as you're closer to your opponent and have less time to react. Many people make the mistake of strafing at this distance. Meaning, you can read them and hopefully land a bunch of your shots.
Short Range You're done with dodging, unless you have insane reaction time, lol. Unfortunately, that means you'll have to pull something out of you and strafe around, but don't fret. Shots deal 0.5-1 heart per hit, so you won't be in too much trouble if you get hit a little. Pearl or bow boost your way back to the long range if you're uncomfortable, and hopefully they don't pearl after you.
Very close range I felt like including this because whenever someone pearls on you, this is the range you're gonna be at. You're literally touching, shots deal absolutely no damage, just pearl away or punch them away with your punch 2 bow.

How to counter strafes (short range)

Strafe 1- standing there like a statue Shoot right between their eyes.
Strafe 2- alternating sides Shoot at the side they're gonna be at next.
Strafe 3- 1 direction shoot at the direction they're heading.
Strafe 4- side to side, varying the side Shoot to one side of them if you're confident, usually will hit them a couple of times lol, or just pearl away
Strafe 5- unpredictable/unknown A few tricks are applicable here.
-Whenever they jump, shoot at where they will land
-shoot them when they draw back their bow (not too reliable if your opponent is good - they'll just fake draw their bow and strafe, or drop arrows)
-pearl or bow boost away back to a more comfortable range if you're doing poorly, and go back to dodging/aiming
-shoot to one side of them if you're confident

Miscellaneous
-Don't panic if you're lower health than your opponent. If you're at a long range, stay there, and just keep dodging/aiming. If you're short range, get back to a long range. Reasoning behind this is that you deal higher damage at long distances, and so you'll probably regain that health much more safely.
-If your opponent is jumpshotting or camping behind something, pearl right beside them (or bow boost) and knock them away with that handy punch 2 bow
-try to stay away from cliffs/ridges/interruptions in the ground, you can get caught on them and take a few hits from it. Get onto a smooth, open plain and work from there.
-Many people look like they're dodging, but are actually combining strafe patterns and dodging. Analyzing these frequencies can win you the game, easily. Happens a lot with 1800-1900s, I noticed.
-Use pearls when you critically need them, don't cast them aside and chuck them wherever you want. They help you escape sticky situations, aggressively pursue your opponent, and a lot more.
-Pearl behind a structure or some type of thing that will shield you, because a good archer will get a free shot off you if you pearl onto something they can aim at.
-when long ranging, whenever you land a hit, quickly adjust your aim and try for another hit. The person will likely be dazed and have their dodging capabilities incapacitated for a second.
-don't bow boost when you're at half a heart lol
That's it, thanks for reading :). Tips to improve this guide will be appreciated, as with anything I clearly forgot.
Again, not the best archer out there, so don't rely on these if you aren't comfortable.

There's a mistake, to turn on hitboxes you need to do F3+B not F3+A.

Amazing guide. Once I stop getting crazy bow delay, I will definitely put these tactics and strats to use! :D

Cool thread and thanks for referencing mine!

You definitely added some stuff that, while I had known about it, didn't really think about when I was writing mine.

I might do an Archer elo series for this on Youtube actually, which will ya know, probably get like negative 2 views and half a like cus it's not Build, but whatever lol.

=====

I'd contribute a few new things I've noticed, but at this point with Season 13 around the corner, let's just wait and see what happens and then have an Archer Season 13 thread at some point or something like that.
