My opinion on MMR/ELO and future seasons
Before responding please read everything, thanks! ^_^

Alright so Arena PvP has been completely rewritten this season and a good portion of the community is against the changes. I personally don't have much against this season, especially with the patches coming out for the matchmaker/promotions. However, if the community isn't willing to play then the player count will continue to drop and the ESL Partnership will be completely useless. In this thread I''m going to be giving my opinion on the changes and how Badlion should move forward to future seasons.

MMR/ELO
I don't mind either rating system, they both have different pros and cons and measure different aspects of a player like consistency and potential. I feel what separates MMR from ELO is that players are able to make mistakes without losing a ton of rating (getting drained) and can quickly ascend through the ratings once they begin to improve. The 20 placement matches also make it so that top players (Danteh, Tylarzz, Gax, etc.) quickly find their spot on the leaderboards and players are evenly spread. I personally think that MMR is more accurate and understanding than ELO. The pros of ELO are that it's simplistic and encourages competition. It gives you a number that you care about, it makes you continue playing because you want to keep bringing it up. While it can make players extremely toxic, it brings a whole new feeling to the game that can't be created by MMR. I personally don't care that much about my MMR rating and I have less desire to play matches and rank up. Why? There's no number to push me to keep playing and as long as I don't get demoted down a ranking I don't care. There are plenty of flaws in ELO which have already been exposed, inflation, draining, and top players gaining +1 against every player. I've pretty much voiced my opinion on both systems and I don't have a problem with whichever one is used.

Season 14
I believe that the devs are going to pull this off, now that Season 13 is running smoothly and the flaws with the matchmaker are being fixed I think it will be a very smooth and fun season. The problem is that the player base has had a negative response to the new rating system. In my opinion, taking away the numbers is what sparked this, as long as players can see their number they will be happy. Correct me if I'm wrong but there is a hidden number behind the ratings. Maybe showing that hidden number could keep the player base happy and would be a nice compromise.

Now this is what I recommend for Season 14:
There should be an open beta (everyone including non donators) for Season 14. In this beta there will be MMR except modified so players can see their hidden number next to the gold/emerald/diamond…etc. ranking in TAB list and /stats. In a match the sidebar and matchmaker notification will not show the hidden number, which could prevent a little toxicity. With these numbers added in, if the player count in the beta servers is extremely high (higher than the regular Arena servers) then number ratings will be shown in Season 14. If the beta isn't super popular then hide the numbers and keep it like Season 13. Eventually after a few seasons once everyone is used to this system I think the numbers could be taken away but the changes were just thrown in too quickly for everyone to get used to imo.

Conclusion
Both ELO and MMR have pros and cons that should be taken into account. The season 14 beta should show the hidden number next to the ranking and if it's popular and receives positive feedback then keep the numbers on the side for season 14.

Yeah it was fun but we have to move on since elo was getting too inflated. The top build elo went up by like a thousand in a few seasons….

Edit: wtf you read that in under a minute

They should go back to the new elo system where you start as a 1400 and rank up. There should still be ranks such as silver 3 being average and you rank up and down to see how good you are compared to other players while there still is elo.

+1 They say elo is evil so we might have a 1% chance of it coming back.

Already have a full roll out plan that addresses the issues of season 13. Just a matter of getting the hours into the code and done.
