[Mac OS X El Capitan] FPS Tips - Optifine and launcher
Introduction
Welcome back to my Mac OS X fps guide (this is my 3rd (unofficial) installment or somethin idk). My first was the quick tip of turning off chat – Fyu recently released a mod called FastChat (search on YT I'm too lazy to get the link), which gets rid of the grey box behind the text to increase FPS. My second guide involved downloading RDM to change your system resolution (most effective method yet). My third is this one, and it is Optifine Settings (read on, it's counterintuitive)

WHO THIS IS FOR(I'm just gonna @RealBlobRobber rn). This is mainly for people who have decent fps 85+ but experience choppiness/heaviness. (Specifically on laptops with integrated graphics).

DISCLAIMER: THIS MAY NOT WORK FOR ALL. THESE METHODS HAVE ONLY BEEN TESTED ON A MACBOOK AIR RUNNING EL CAPITAN.

This is a short one but completely changed how the game felt for me. (Skip to second paragraph. The first is junk.)

SHIT NO ONE CARES ABOUT AKA How I figured it out: I am low key obsessed with optimizing the game settings (and non game settings) to make it feel as nice as possible. I realized after doing some testing and comparing how my game felt with how other people's recording felt. While I still get 120+ fps consistently with max settings, shaders core, AND recording 60 fps with OhBullShit (OBS), the game felt really really choppy. So I tried bumping all the settings down and turning off the shaders. I was getting 200-350 fps pretty consistently without recording, but the game still felt choppy (it was a little better though). From this, I concluded that the FPS was not an issue and somethings had to be straining my CPU/GPU (shitty integrated graphics card – Mac users u all know what I'm talking about). Watching activity monitor, the ram was not an issue and the CPU usage was not maxing out (well below, in fact). I was so desperate to solve this. Also quick tip for Mac users, the launcher never closed when u start the game (even when u have option ticked in the edit profile), so always right click and press quit on the grass icon on your dock after you see the crafting table (Grass = launcher, crafting table= game). I have found that the launcher has taken more memory than the game at times…). This closing launcher stuff is stuff I figured out a few months ago, but it was not a complete fix for the choppiness. Yesterday I found the final piece that worked for me. Well, I admit, I was being a fanboy when in figure it out, but if not for being a fanboy, I may have never figured it out. I was watching one of Danteh's old vids when he had a laptop and was watching the lava wall one at 0,0. When he was on the bridge he went to video settings to turn down his render distance, and I noticed that his advanced open gl and his chunk loading were on OFF and Default, respectively. Being the fanboy I am, I logged on and turned both settings off, the results were quality. The game felt crisp and predicting older movements was easier. Using this very counter intuitive methodology (EVERY FPS GUIDR TELLS YOU TO USE FAST OPEN GL AND SMOOTH/MULTI CORE CHUNK LOADING), I decided to try turning off even more optimizations. My results were as follows: Turn OFF Smooth FPS, Turn OFF Fast Render, Turn ON Fast Math, Turn OFF Mipmaps. Now, this DEFINITELY 420% DOES NOT apply to everyone. For most people, turning off Open GL is FPS Hell, but for at least my computer (and maybe other macs / integrated graphics cards), Advanced open GL seems to do nothing (no boost I did testing and averages under different conditions) except confuse the Processor or Graphics card or whatever executed the Open GL. Default chunk loading also seems to be more crisp feeling than smooth setting. Also, turning Mimaps off seems to have a similar effect. My goal was to reduce as much strain on the CPU/Graphics as possible due to the integration. (I'm trying to sound knowledgeable, but I probably sound hella stupid lol). As for the Fast Render, only turn this off of you do not need the extra FPS, as it does increase your Fps (especially for the Optifine_HD_U_D1+, not much at all for Optifine_HD_U_C1, which most people use), but I find that turning it off even though I lose 20 fps makes the game feel much nicer (easier to predict movements and aim).

TLDR AKA I DONT WANT TO HERE YOUR BULLSHIT JUST GIVE ME THE TIPS AND TWICKS

MY SETTINGS
Advanced OpenGL: OFF
Chunk Loading: Default
Fast Math: ON
Fast Render: OFF
Mipmap Levels: OFF

RANDOM RAM TRICK: Right click the grass block AFTER your game starts up, and press quit. This is the launcher not closing as it should and hogging hundreds of megabytes of RAM. Grass = launcher, Crafting Table = Game

I am testing something else for FPS for Mac at the moment as well (a few actually). I will create a fourth installment once I finalize my findings :^). I might merge everything into a mega thread in the future too idk. For now, thanks for reading, and I hope this help you. If it doesn't and you complain, it means you did not read my disclaimer/my long shit-post paragraph, so _|_ (pls no mute). As always, if you have any questions, repeat your question out loud to yourself, and think about if it is dumb before you ask it.

seems like a helpful thread btw even tho I'm on windows

When it comes to what I do with Windows and Macs it mostly consists of me trying to find clients and auto clickers and shit. I don't really bother improving things like performance or optimizing gameplay on macs. I've already done it using the registry on windows but that's about it.

Aside from that +1 on the guide
