what is the point of having fire resistance and a fire aspect sword, they both cancel each other out

the only challenge fire has is when it distorts your view (but then again a majority of you have low fire texture packs)

is there actually a point of having fire aspect and fire res?

I'm pretty new to potpvp so can anyone tell me?

It's a legacy left over from factions, in a 1v1 everyone used there fucking koth sword and also most fights happened in glass towers or at nether gank with support archers.

Swords had no fire but in most situations you would be on fire so it was customary to have fire res, when practice came around they copied the real scenario and it stuck. It's as old as practice and as old as factions.
