You kind of miss the point, back in the day, segregation and slavery before that were political norms not only in America but largely the western world, it was considered common and normal for presidential candidates to hold such beliefs. in the modern, 2016 presidential candidate race, the two nominees are so far removed from western, modern political norms, a nationalist demagogue vs a dishonest, borderline criminal. The two have the lowest favouribility amongst presidential nominees from since the statistic was measured (and by some margin too). Yes, you're right that other presidents, by today's standards held views that were purely racist, however never before have we seen two candidates whose characters and political beliefs fail to represent the general philosophy of their parties and mainstream America as a whole.

Idk as far as your criticism of Hillary, what politician isn't dishonest? And I wouldn't really call her a borderline criminal, since the FBI didn't indict her, whereas other presidents (i.e. Nixon) faced impeachment etc. And for Trump, nationalism isn't a bad thing. As far as the demagogue thing, that's subjective and most of his party doesn't see him that way. They still got the majority votes for their parties so they must embody something people agree with.

Ok. Hilary is a borderline criminal, the Head of the FBI who is appointed by Obama chose not to indite her, after reading a lost of about a million things she should have been guilty for, she has repetitively lied to the public, the media, the FBI so blatantly about her emails, she isn't just a 'typical dishonest politician', they lie about some statistics and stuff like that, cont covering up federal offences and persistently lying about it. And for Trump and the republicans, yes, nationalism is a bad thing. i won't get started how nationalism is bad policy-wise because that would take me a while. But nationalism doesn't follow republican principles. Republican principles are largely based on conservative philosophy, supporting free trade, restricting government intervention, limiting taxes, Trump is all of these, which ties in nicely to your next point, trump definitely is a demogague and his party does think that way, it's one of the main reasons why the whole Never Trump movement exists in the GOP. Trump consistently uses identity politics which appeal to the 'alt-right' movement, a movement which has many ties to Eurocentric white nationalism, in particularly by slandering people of ethnic minority groups, such as Muslimsand Mexicans. That last part also isn't true, Trump did not win the majority of votes to become republican nominee and Hilary only just achieved a majority, largely due to super delegates and the substantial evidence that exists showing the DNC ran the primaries in Hilaries favour.

Neither candidate got a majority of the votes. Both solely got a plurality and enough delegates to be crowned the nominees.
Cruz and Kasich backed out in early May, leaving Trump being the only operating Republican campaign (though, there's a good chance he would have won the nomination even if they didn't). You're right about Hillary. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, the now-resigned DNC chair, was exposed tilting the DNC's efforts strongly in favor of Clinton, which is, of course, bad since the DNC is supposed to act to facilitate the Democratic party's operations and be unbiased (at least among Democrats). Dismissing the rumors of voter fraud, Hillary still would have won the nomination despite Bernie's incredibly enthusiastic supporters.
Sanders and Trump share one thing in common though: they're both outsiders, and that resonates with a lot of people. Hillary is the embodiment of the "establishment," though she disagrees citing that she's a woman running for the presidency. Although most Bernie supporters are going for Hillary simply because they hate Trump more than Hillary, there is a handful of them going for Trump because of his outsider status.
Hillary is really hungry for power. I don't believe that she cares about other people. She panders so hard to minority voters that it's sickening. My favorite is when she was with a group of African Americans and touted that she pours hot sauce on her food and carries a bottle in her purse. Yeah, right. They then accused her of pandering on the spot, and she replied, "Is it working?"
There are two choices: someone who was in government and failed or someone who has never been in the government and could change things (possibly for the worse).

Agreed but Hilary did technically get the majority of votes since it was a 2 horse race
