I'll explain
The method most of us use is CFOP, which stands for: Cross, F2L, OLL, PLL
The cross is a (typically) white cross that will allow for a base to be built. There are more requirements, but I won't go too in depth.
Then comes F2L, which stands for First 2 Layers. It completes the first side as well as the pieces above it so that we only have to solve the last layer.
Then we have OLL, which is Orientation of Last Layer. This orients the entire last layer so if the last side is yellow, only yellow will be facing up.
Lastly we have PLL, Permutation of Last Layer, which moves all of the pieces into place.

There are different kinds of OLL and PLL. The "entry level" OLL and PLL are both "2 looks". This is about 12+ algorithms, if I remember correctly, and require you to look once, do an algorithm, look again, do another one, and do that for 4 looks in total. Full PLL is around 28 algorithms, which all people <20 know, and some know full OLL, which is 50 algorithms but doesn't save much time. That's the basis from a n00b, I'll let Cumbo or @MeMyselfAndCube do the rest

Full PLL helps you less than full OLL imo. Both are still work it. Also if you want to be fast it helps to use a hybrid between CFOP and whatever other cases pop up (COLL, ZBLL, XCross, e.t.c)

I'll upload a solve and walkthrough some other time. Tag me to remind me lol.

My best is like 24s, and average about 30…
But I haven't practiced in half a year so I guess my times went up since then
