Rod tips and how to rod trick

And go. Plz no trolls. I am catching on to pot pvp way quicker than uhc style. I am just way more consistent at pot. I know a rod trick is a rod crit but idk best way to time. I am rod noob :-(

I advise landing a rod before you go in for the hits. If they start to run at you, back up and rod them, and once you get a good hit run in and get a couple hits, then you can back out (kinda scummy play style) or keep going for combos (riskier but less scummy and more fun for both players)

If the person that you are fighting and you get knocked back from each other to get a good rod combo move back and when in the air rod the person and hopefully get a rod combo.

First of all, I'm not a pro at pvp so please tell me if I'm wrong or if this is not actually a rod trick.
Basically the way you can do a rod trick is to well rod him and then hit him right after or while the bobber is hitting him, the way you can tell it works (or at least the way i tell) is if after the rod hits him and you swing, you should only hear 1 hit sound, see particles (in build), and he will take damage even though it was just a rod hit (which shouldn't do damage). then you can follow up with a combo. I really hope this is true info xD but it has worked for me so far. Really it just takes practice to get it almost everytime.
