Overview
This tournament will be a 5v5 team CTF tournament.
There will be between 128 and 256 contesting teams.
Date and Time:
The group stages will be hosted on November 5, 2016 at 12:00 PM EST / 9:00 AM PST - The final bracket will be hosted on November 12, 2016 at 12:00 PM EST / 9:00 AM PST
Signups will be closed at 11:59 PM EST / 8:59 PM PST on November 2nd.
Current time in EST: http://time.is/New_York
Please note America goes off of daylight savings on November 6th, so timings might change between group stages and finals.
This tournament can last for a while. If you sign up, we expect you to attend. The average tournament day can last between 4-6 hours but it can very well last for a longer or shorter period depending on how well cooperative the teams are.
Server
We will be using the CTF lobby server hosted in Central North America as our default location. The reason this region was selected is because it is the location most fair to the largest group of players in terms of average ping for SA, AU, NA, and EU. teams will join into parties and duel each other for official matches.
If two dueling teams mutually agree to have their match hosted on SA or EU CTF, then the match will be shifted to that server by simply using the SA/EU CTF Lobby instead of the NA CTF Lobby.
Group stages will have a dedicated forum/thread where you will be assigned a match. In that post, your team leader will report your win with a screenshot, which has to include both the tab-list and the game chat declaring who won. Without an appropriate screenshot, your win might be contested. There will be a thread for each round in group stages stating who you play and on what map. There may or may not be a referee for each group stage. All disputes also go into that thread.
On the final bracket on Nov 12, you will have a staff member for each match watching over the games and will be told when to duel.
Rules
All Badlion Network rules apply during tournament play.
The following offenses may warrant a ban from all Badlion Network servers without warning and will be harsher than those usually given out:
- Usage of any unauthorized client modifications/hacked clients
- Usage of any sort of external device that gives the player an unfair advantage over other players
- Threatening, harassing or bullying other players
- Exploiting game-breaking plugin issues/abusing bugs
- Failure to follow directions given by Tournament Staff
- Any action that causes a disruption to the event
- Any form of poor sportsmanship and/or disrespect, publicly or privately
- Refusing to screenshare for an Administrator
- Evading an IP ban (We will wait to issue the bans 5 minutes before the tournament starts)
- Contesting with a roster that does not correspond with your own will result in a disqualification.
- If you do not follow the instructions given by a helper, you may be disqualified.
Because our client-side anti-cheat is not yet done, if an Administrator suspects a player(s) of cheating (using a ghost client), we may request a screenshare from any designated member of the community. When requested, you may:
Either decline and forfeit your eligibility in the tournament (resetting your current team round and being forced to play man down or with a sub for the rest of the tournament)
Accept and allow us to watch you run a few commands and run a special program designed by the developers of Badlion.
If you log out before accepting, we will assume you have forfeited your chance to screenshare, and depending on the evidence you will be let go or banned.
If you log out after accepting, you will be banned from Badlion.
If we or our representatives find any cheat device on your computer, you will be blanket banned from Badlion.
Players who break these rules may also be subject to a permanent blacklist, or disqualification from all future events.
If a teammate is caught cheating, their whole team will be disqualified.
In addition to actions mentioned above, the following may result in a disqualification from the event:
- Failure to show up to event on time
- Lagging to an extent that is unplayable may result in removal from the tournament
Rematches will be granted at the discretion of Tournament Advisers or Admins in only certain situations. Do not ask for a rematch.
Tournament administrators are the final authority. Therefore, they reserve the ability to make final decisions on escalated or disputed matters.
Maps
All maps are in the map pool. During groups, the rounds’ threads will have the map you are to play. During the final bracket, each team will veto until there are either 1 or 3 maps (bo1 vs bo3) with the referee for their match.
Tournament Stages Information
The following is subject to change based on the number of teams who sign up for the tournament.
Groups
Teams will be assigned groups, and depending on how many teams we have, the #1 or both #1 and #2 from each group will advance to the final bracket. Either 1 or 2 teams will advance depending on their number of signups for the tournament. All matches in the group stage will be best of 1. The group stage will be Swiss format, where each team plays each team within your group. Advancing teams will be determined by the number of their wins and losses. If a tie occurs, another swiss bracket will be played between the teams that are tied.
After the group stage is completed, the tournament will advance to the Bracket stage.
If you want to understand more about how a Swiss bracket works read here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swiss-system_tournament
Bracket
Bracket size will be determined based on the number of contestants.
The bracket will be seeded semi-randomly based off of the tournament administration's best guess at seeding. The top 64 teams from groups advance to the bracket - Rounds 1, 2 & 3 (64/32/16) will be best of 1. The quarter finals and on will be best of 3.
If we do not receive enough signups, the tournament will be canceled. If we do not receive at least 128 teams, there will be no group stage and just a bracket stage on Nov 12.
Prizes
1st place - $1000 to the team
2nd place - $350 to the team
3rd place - $150 to the team
At the moment we are going to use Paypal to distribute cash prizes.
In the case of a money dispute, Archybot and MasterGberry will make the final decisions on the dividing of the prize. Also note that if evidence comes to light that a participant broke/breaks a rule after the tournament, that we reserve the right to strip his/her team of its cash prize.
Scrim servers
By the end of next weekend, October 22nd, there will be a CTF lobby where you can duel any team to a 5v5 match. These will be how you can practice scrims. Please note you will not be given a dedicated server and will have to use /duel between two 5v5 team parties to practice.
Good luck!
Note: Details of this tournament may change, please check back frequently.
There will be a channel on the Badlion Public Discord for those who need tournament related help.
