Tournament review and suggestions.
First thing that I really did not enjoy about this tournament is the severe lack of teams scrimming. There have only been three teams to really scrim on a regular basis, Element, Team ace, and NoLimit. I feel like a major reason behind this is the lack of team sizes. With 7 man teams in 5v5 games you need to have almost your entire team on to be able to scrim. I think teams could be expanded up to a 50/50 ratio, so if you have 5v5 games have 10 people be allowed on teams.

The lack of teams scrimming also creates a lack of organised competition, with not many teams being able to take on Element / Ace.

I also feel like a lack of hype was a serious problem. The tournament was announced and then started almost a week or two later. There was no time for teams to be made, no teams were able to try anyone out, scrim servers were released late, etc.

Another reason for lack of hype is the lack of forum activity. I think there should be things like LFT, LFM, LFS, etc. and more organised, not just a clan recruitment thread where both clans and some teams post and it gets messy.

Lack of map testing / preparation was also a problem. Many of the maps seemed rushed and not very good. For example, in Vallecy, you literally spawn closer to mid then to where your flag is, you literally spawn infront of the flag, which I think is horrible. I think the maps should of been tested publicly and have improvements made before the tournament.

I think public should be the same as the tournament with 2 teams and not 4 teams. Just a personal preference probably, but I think it makes it more skill based and it allows you to practice the map without scrimming.

I think you should be able to see the maps without having your full team on to scrim. I often times want to strat for maps and test out different routes but never can except during mid scrim.

I'd like to see the community just become more forum-centralized in general. It can only more deeply engage the community, and it lets the community have a strong voice in the competitive future of Badlion.

Literally this. I honestly don't find the forums very user friendly, you have to navigate too much to find interesting topics, and I am quite sure many other people feel this way.

the entire community uses twitter so I think it should be taken advantage of more than the forums, why move people to forums when everyone's on twitter already?

Perhaps use twitter to spread awareness of forum posts? I feel like twitter having certain restrictions isn't very good.

From what I hear the maps are bad and not much testing was put into place. I also agree with the 7 man roster being expanded to 10-12 because then you don't have to have a full team on just in order to play.

Make forums more user friendly as well and introduce things called 'Looking for Team' etc.

In short: take notes from OCN/Lifeboat's tournament management.

inb4 i get hate.

I've been seeing problems in both tournaments with teams no showing which can't be stopped completely but I think a verification system (like OCN has for their tournaments) should be put into place. So once a team registers every single individual member needs to also log onto the forums and confirm their participation via team pages. That way a team leader can't just fill a roster for the heck of it, he actually needs each team member to log on and confirm participation.

There was no testing, which I think is a major problem. Testing the maps publicly also creates more hype, which is a great thing.

Forums should be more user friendly, any LFM or LFT was made in the clan discussion, which just clutters that entire discussion up, and mixes in with that discussion which is bad. Almost impossible to get your LFT or LFM for the tournament noticed in the clutter.

There are things to be learnt from OCN, even though I disagree with most of what they do, they do some great things. I think the forums are better over there for tournament style events, the hype was MUCH bigger on OCN DESPITE THERE BEING NO MONEY INVOLVED, which is NOT how it should be. The testing was done with multiple maps and many edits being made before being played in the tournament, which I think is good because of badlion maps had flaws in them in my opinion during the group stages that would have been easily noticed if tested.

I think this is good. I know a player or two that were on multiple teams and were too lazy to tell a team leader to remove them, the verification would fix problems such as these.

team sizes are way too small, we struggle to scrim because of getting people on at once

This. I feel like this is a problem with many teams.

These are all good points, but you have to keep in mind that CTF is an extremely new gamemode to Badlion. The fact that they are having a tournament with so many people signed up to play this new gamemode so shortly after they introduced it is truely incredible. I assume that everything you have mentioned in this post will be improved, or at the very least reduced, once the gamemode has been on the server for a longer period of time.

As for the forum issue, i agree that they need to be easier to navigate to make sure that the community gets to know each other well and the community as a whole can discuss topics that can improve the server. Having forums that allow people to converse on topics they agree on is important so they are not just playing a server for the gameplay, they are actually playing the server because of the people. I don't want to necessarily include OCN in this, but one of the only reasons i still play the server even though it is in a complete garbage version and has declined in actual gameplay is because i have made friendships with people on that server and i enjoy hanging out with them. If you can help create these friendships on badlion through the forums it would help people want to show up every day to play on badlion with their friends they made. Once this happens then it can actually come full circle and help with the no showing in tournaments and help with the lack of scrimmages.

You have a lot of people signing up, but many teams, sometimes even entire groups no showed.

This is a test tournament. I wouldnt be playing if it wasnt.

Most if not all the feedback given by the players are for sure going to be implemented in the future. This tournament was to test out CTF and Varicks. And for this test, you are given the chance to win 1k.

Also we get a lot of suggestion to run our tournaments like OCN.

They have some solid core concepts but we do not wish to approach the competitive side of minecraft the way they did it. It's pretty obvious why we would choose this path.

I have to agree with you here, the whole clan section should be more organized because it is very messy as of now (Make subforums to separate clans for each region, etc..), it is really bad to see that even if mcsg shut down no one moved to badlion to do clan wars here and the whole competitive clan scene that mcsg had (even if how bad the server was) doesn't seem to be a thing at all here :/

With larger team sizes you're gonna need a larger prize pool. It certainly should help with the hype, too.
