verbal tone isn't. I phrased that wrong, its not clear what the tone is. Sarcasm is very difficult to transmit since it's saying the exact opposite thing as what would be logical. Without writing things like "Hurr durr" it's difficult to seem wrong.

Anyone can tell that a topic like this isn't serious. Him meaning it jokingly would be more logical than him naming a topic "….." and making a quick statement like that on something he was genuinely religiously passionate about.
