PUG Match Making - Gamemode Concerns
Last edited on 30 November 2016 - 11:47 AM by Kiivo
Many people are unsure about the Arena Kits for the PUG Match Making, but I am more "concerned" about the choice of gamemodesHere I will try to explain my general opinions on the gamemodes and try to create a discussion on the matter
Objective Games:
A reason why I enjoyed playing the small amounts of time that I did play on OCN and a reason why I love badlion's CTF is because it’s an objective game
Therefore, strategy is an important factor along with PvP Skill, meaning it's very possible to come back from a loss against a very skilled team
I think objective games are much better for a Competitive Minecraft, and from the PUG atm there are only 2 objective gamemodes (CTF + Rush)
Survival Games, Skywars and Arena PvP at their core, are two teams fighting it out until one team is left. No respawns and no real "objective"
Obviously, the way in which you gather resources and kill each team is different, but I think more OCN inspired objective gamemodes are better suited for 5v5 Minecraft
I believe Arena in PUG is fine, as it tests team's PvP Skill on a simple arena and is extremely popular on Badlion
Having a second Last Team Standing (LTS) gamemode isn't really bad at this early stage either in my opinion
However, having a 3rd LTS gamemode as well is too much of a push and I strongly think a better objective gamemode could fill its place
Block Integration / Void:
A problem that some people had with CTF is that there is no Block integration, and that Competitive Minecraft should include Blocks as its the games niche
I can see that Rush and Skywars were chosen as these gamemodes do integrate them in many ways, but I still think it could have problems
As Archy has mentioned, Void in gamemodes isn't good in large amounts as it defeats many elements of skill, and can "override" strategies
Rush:
If Rush is similar to Bed Wars, then this will mean that there will be very large sections of void between each island section
This therefore means there likely will be too much void, and gamemodes like this (large Void areas) aren't the best way to implement blocks in to Competitive Minecraft
Also from my experience playing, Bed Wars has always been more of a gamemode with multiple teams rather than 5v5,
As well as this, Bed Wars has never come across as an extremely competitive gamemode to me as I think things like shopkeepers make it less competitive and more of a fun based game
However, I'm sure that badlion will be able to develop it hopefully in a fun and competitive way
I don't have loads of knowledge on the game so it hopefully will be more "PvP Oriented" as Badlion have stated and be a good objective gamemode
Skywars:
Although I really do enjoy playing the game, I don't think it will be an amazing 5v5 Competitive gamemode
If similar to other variants of Skywars, there is likely to be loads of void, as well as the fact that it's a LTS gamemode and not objective
At least with Rush if you die you respawn and continue playing, whereas if someone makes a small mistake causing them to fall off the map, then they are out for the entire round
Yes, this requires the ability to have skill with blocks, but I think that it implements them too much and will remove many other aspects to the game
The "randomness" of chest items in SkyWars and SG is another thing similar in a way and considering SG has no void I strongly prefer it to Skywars for PUG
Overall I believe that there could be a great objective gamemode with perfect block integration, but shouldn't necessarily mean the addition of many Void areas
I am still looking forward to the PUG Match Making but I have these possible "concerns" in the back of my mind.

I personally think they'll do it well. I don't know any more than you do, so don't blame it on that or anything. I'd like to see it then judge how its going to go.Posted on 30 November 2016 - 11:58 AM
@Metarus I just hope that badlion have thought of the possible problems so that they can make Premium as fun / comptetitive as possible, and develop the gamemodes as well as they did for CTFLast edited on 30 November 2016 - 10:18 PM by AbsolutelyAlpha
Great thread. I agree with pretty much all of that :) I do think though that Skywars well do well, as I always enjoyed playing ranked 2v2 and 3v3 Skywars in season 12. I don't think Rush will work too well though…Posted on 01 December 2016 - 06:16 PM
Agreed.Rush on the rewinside server was already an esl Gameode. So that should be fine. Maybe the clans will move to Badlion now that Badlion is ESL partner (rewinside ist any more)
