Minecraft in general wasn't meant for pvp. Nothing was intended for pvp purposes, the community just made pvp a thing, the devs never intended this but it came out to be a big thing. everything 'combat' based was intended for killing mobs, I know its stupid, but also true.
This is true, but so many unknown bugs and glitches in the awful coding of the game such as blockhitting, wtapping etc because discovered and people were actually able to become good at fighting other players while using these bugs to their advantage.
Potion PvP was the first form of player vs player in Minecraft, and takes much, much more skill than BuildUHC, this is a fact.
Here are some common examples:
A half decent/good (legit) potion player that comes to this server grinds to lets say Gold II NoDebuff. Once they've finished grinding NoDebuff, they try out BuildUHC. Having NEVER played the gamemode before, they are able to get high gold or even emerald in the kit. Now let's think about UHC players from reddit or something coming to this server. They are able to grind to maybe Gold II BuildUHC, but then they try to play NoDebuff ranked. They are barely able to reach silver II, I once saw a Diamond V rated BuildUHC player that was rated BRONZE in NoDebuff.
Why is this? Obtaining a very high rating in Build (Diamond, Masters etc) is almost IMPOSSIBLE without playing like an absolute bitch. I'm not just another salty lad that's crying that I got stuck in lava in a ranked BuildUHC match and died, I'm talking about people that drag out a ranked Minecraft match for 8 minutes because they don't want to lose their points. In NoDebuff, there are no rods, lava, water or blocks to be abused, so of course the sweaty BuildUHC players can't really do much in a kit with a sword, pearls and health potions.
This little rant doesn't account for ALL BuildUHC players, it's just the vast majority.

I fought this guy in nodebuff who would pearl to the opposite side of the map and when you get close to him he would either pearl away or kite for a while and then pearl away. He made the match last forever.

Harming and poison pots heal mobs; to kill mobs you would use healing or regen pots. Thus, no other use for them than PvP.
Well, I guess they hurt creepers, but this rules them out for use in spawners as there are no creeper spawners and they would heal the majority of mobs in a dark room spawner.

The fact that I use 100 Fov and don't lower it for speed does not set me up for success.Last edited on 22 December 2016 - 01:11 PM by crusaders

This is a response to each of your paragraphs:
Soup was the first form of pvp I think, correct me if i'm wrong.
No it does not take "much, much more skill then build uhc. This is not a fact. They take pretty even amounts of skill, pot pvp requires more mechanical skills, where as build requires strategy, game sense, rod skills and bow skills (I still suck with bows to this day)
This is true to an extent, its because potpvp teaches players to aim and click fast. Where as build doesn't force players to learn that as much as aim and cps arent as crucial. Good build players walk into potpvp, almost none of them past Gold III, where as most pot players can walk into build and make their way to Emerald V. because potpvp teacher players strategies that can work for both rod pvp and potpvp, where as build uhc teaches players how to rod, lava and bow, which wont help them in potpvp. I kind of agree with you here.

I prefer speed ladders to non-speed ladders just because I can use my 250ms to my advantage. In non-speed ladders, having 250ms gives you no advantage at all, especially with rods. You should lower your FOV settings from your usual settings by 10 when you play speed ladders, it would make you have your usual FOV.

and health potions hurt undead. Regeneration doesn't act as poison despite popular thought.
The "common" mobs besides undead are all hurt by harming and poison. Spiders (besides poison), creepers, and about 3/4 of all the mobs in this game aren't undead.
Forgive me for the minecraft mechanics lesson, I've been playing single player for the last 21 days.

IDK I doubt Minecraft included harming pots just for use in really expensive regular spider spawner machines, or to kill a creeper instead of using a sword. The main intended use of harming, poison, etc. was most likely PvP, whereas the main intended use of fishing rods was for fishing.

you most likely have problems with it because of too high fov and relying on secondaries too much, just put the fov down to around 70 and it will be completely normal, as for the actual kit you just gotta practice in it if you are an sg playerPosted on 22 December 2016 - 12:57 PM
Minecraft is a sandbox game, what they created is limited on singleplayer. Sandbox means you can do whatever you want with it, so basically the community created PvP.Also when you are low in survival you can basically poison a mob (which is affected by it) and then hit him so you don't die LOL
