To quote my good friend Archybot:"The internet is not a "safe space" nor will it ever be one (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safe-space). Badlion is not a safe space, it is a competitive minecraft server on the internet. Badlion will NEVER be a "safe space", and we typically lean towards the side of freedom of speech as long as you do not break our rules." - Archybot, Badlion and disrespect/social justice/safe space, https://www.badlion.net/forum/thread/139168.So why are we going around muting people for a single letter like "L" or calling someone "bad." The internet is not a safe place. Are the players on Badlion so delicate and sensitive that they can't handle such minor criticism? If they go on any other server they will see this kind of behavior. If they go anywhere on the internet they will see this behavior. People in the real world act this way. Why not prepare them how to accept this, and teach them to handle real life? BL staff will not be able to protect you from poor sports in real life. We are just spoiling the players.
To quote Archy again: "While we do attempt to reduce hate speech, harassment, and disrespect of race, gender, religion, and other protected affiliations - we do not guarantee nor do we attempt to provide an safe space for feelings and opinions." Nothing in there mentions poor sportsmanship. You say you do not attempt to provide a safe space, but you do. You are constantly going out of your way to prevent people from seeing that dreaded "L" in chat.

In my opinion muting for 'L' is pretty stupid and mods should be focusing more on muting people for severe things. Of course saying 'kys' or related should be punishable, but a single letter? No, I don't think any other server mutes for it, but at the end of the day it's the rules of the server so I just stick to them when i'm on it \o/Posted on 22 December 2016 - 09:21 AM

mmmm, I'd have to disagree with you on the kys part, since people that are truely suicidal and that sensitive should not be on the internet, but that's a discussion for another day. I agree that "L" and "bad" should not be mutable.

It's mutable because it's just so toxic and not necessary. After beating someone, saying 'L' (Loss) or like 'You are bad' to them just isn't needed. I don't understand why people persistently say it or feel the need to say it. We don't want a server full of people being disrespectful to each other, instead of saying something bad about the person look for something good to say. You don't see Competitive E-Sports players after a match getting up and saying "Oh take the Loss you were Ez" after a match. You may not be able to acknowledge it now but it is better this way. Or toxicity would breed like we've seen on servers with no chat rules in the past.Posted on 22 December 2016 - 03:22 PM
