An Assessment of why many ladders died.
So as we all know, Badlion recently changed the rating system. I'm a huge fan of it knowing I only get drained half as much as what you'd get drained with ELO. This change drastically dropped the player count by a ton. I think it's because people liked the "grindy" factor that ELO brought and it's been replaced. Some say that it's a hell of a lot easier to get the equivalent of 2800 ELO now, and they are right because the losses only drain you half as much. So for everyone on leaderboards saying they have the "highest ELO ever" think again, you'll need to nearly double your points to have the highest ELO ever. So I don't see why the player count dropped…

So now is when I move on to the actual decrease of the player count. As most of us know the kb in season 13 was not well received by the community, and the huge change in the rating system happening at the same time was very detrimental to the server's growth. Not to mention Judgement Day 8 occurred during season 13 and wiped out a ton of cheaters from Kohi. Since the player count dropped by a thousand after that the server had around 2500 players on at peak times. This is the main contributor to the ladders dying- after season 14 began I only saw more than 10 people playing Build, NDB, and SG. In season 12 I saw less than 10 people in Soup, Horse, and Vanilla. I love vanilla but it's dying, but I never want to see it removed. It's been here forever, the only ladder that's been here for all 14 seasons.

The player count grew back but all the new players saw Build and enjoyed it, the potpvpers saw NDB and enjoyed it, and a few others saw SG and tried it out because they've played the game mode. So these are the three ladders that still have people actively playing. That's not very good because the other nine ladders barely have anyone playing in them. Iron was the next to last ladder I got gold 4 in because literally nobody played it. I saw someone in queue for Vanilla though, and I went straight for it every time. There are all these underplayed ladders because the player count dropped because of the kb and rating system and judgement days, and the new players are all flocking to Build, NDB, and even SG isn't doing well but it's still at #3.

This was just a thread explaining my thoughts about why barely anyone plays 3/4 of all the ladders on the server. There's your TLDR if you wanted one.

really? i never see gapple have more than 5fights going on at same time and usually SG has 8
