Anyway, people are realising how big the the skill gap between normal players and top players is, so they're trying "harder" to get a better rating and feel better about their skill. <- All of this has always happened and always will.

Sweating is not the same as common sense. Waiting for you to come closer so it's easier to hit you isn't sweaty.

Maybe if you grind Mineplex to improve your strafe you could hit Emerald in Build again :)

This is another good point.

@Nicosby still very impressive that you can get a decent rank in build with no/minimal rod usage (decent rank for a regular player, really good rank for no rod)

Well known players quit because of either
A) Boredom - some people have been playing competitively since 2013 and the game just isn't interesting to them anymore
B) The community - Toxins, cryers, cheaters etc.
C) Growing older and slowly drifting away from the game to do other things, such as studying or working.
