water pvp questions

-how do people get extra hits by placing water/-why do i see high ranked build uhc players put water next to the opponents wall then take it off/ i don't get it

1. The opponent get's caught in the water which slows them down while the other person can jump forward and take advantage of the other person moving slower and get a hit. Similar to how if you're running backwards from somebody you move slower than them running forward so they will get an extra hit or two. Or something like that2. If a person is behind a wall placing water will move them a bit away from the wall

Say for example you're bowing somebody and the wall up. If you place water on the wall (unless it's at an area where the ground is raised and the water will flow to the lower area) the person will either be moved backwards by the water flowing towards them or be forced to move away from the water.

but the water doesn't reach him because the blocks are blocking the water's path
