You wanna know where you hear that MMR is better than ELO?
PhD/Masters disserations/thesis/research papers for computer science, statistics, and math
Every other game in existance
And this is purely in 1v1, there doesn't even exist ELO algorithms for games with 3 or more players. These people are smarter then you are, and these people have dedicated anywhere from a few years to decades researching shit like this. There are hundreds of papers on this, but we should listen to what the small spoiled minecraft pvp community that hates changes wants, instead of the established scientific facts and clearly set competitive gaming precedent.
Here are a few overall reasons why MMR is better then ELO
1. New players converge to their true rating slower in ELO then in MMR
2. ELO does not support any form of game with 3 or more people (unless you treat a 5v5 as a 1v1 in ratings, which can only be done when it's the same team over and over).
3. ELO does not account for anything besides win or loss.
4. ELO does not have built in systems for rating decay. (Since MMR slowly expands constantly, if you don't continue to play you'll lose your position on leaderboards)
5. ELO has no way to account for your skill reliability.
What ELO does have:
1. ELO can calculate your % to win any given match.
2. ELO is easier to implement.
3. NUMBERRRRRRR
At best, ELO is close to MMR in solely 1v1 (but still not better), but MMR has to be used in team games (such as PUG) and all FFA systems, so there is absolutely no reason to ever convert back to an inferior rating system and have two different systems across the network just to please a few butthurt crybabies. I'm honestly done with this argument and am about to make it a bannable offense to bitch about it. Move on to other things that are more important to complain about, which do exist on BL.
Admit that you messed up with a lot of things in the last time. Everything started when you wanted to make Kohi and Arena the same things. The second mistake was s13 which was a fail and that's why it lasted only 2-3 weeks. The kb you added to s13, the new systems were all worse than they were in s12. "The queue system is perfect" ok. I'll explain why it is shit with an simple example: in s12 Hivlk used to play around 18-20 matches in a 25 minutes vid and now he plays max 10. If you wanteda another queue system you should've add the Kohi one but mmr is not something your server should have.
You say that you hate the community but you never played YOUR OWN server in a competitive way. If you would do that, you would know that if you try to rod someone back in a match you get comboed and that is not how kb should work. Sometimes players just stay still. Your server was the best for competitive pvp till s12 but aftter that even Mineplex got a better pvp experience. If you think that you did the best for the server then let me ask you for something if it doesn't need to much work for that. I thnk that you have a backup from evert season so bring back EVERYTHING you had in s11. ELO, Queue system, Kits, everything that made Badlion such a great server for a single season that will last max 1 month and we'll see who knows what's best for the server. Or, as I said, is it too much work for you to try to bring back the good ol' Badlion?

Kohis fine on badlion for me. Plus, can you stop bitching that Elos gone? It's a little sad at this point. Archybot explained it great, but your heads too far up your own ass to acknowledge anything Archys said.

Kid with 3 bans kissing Archy's ass so his next appeal will be accepted and Archy is the one complaining about the community.

I don't understand the purpose of MMR for a community this smallPosted on 02 February 2017 - 05:56 AM
I was playing badlion no debuff ranked having an "eh" time doing some brick wall pvp when my grandpa walked in. He saw the knockback and instantly fell over and died of a heart attack because of how sad it was. Gramps remembered when knockback was horizontal and not just vertical !Posted on 02 February 2017 - 06:28 AM
This thread is a kid bitching and moaning about ELO being gone. You don't like change, and that's great and all but that's not gonna do anything. Badlion is moving forward while you're just standing on one spotPosted on 02 February 2017 - 06:34 AM

I agree with some of your points. The introduction of the new queuing system and MMR especially made Badlion go downhill. I respect all the hard work of the Developers, but to be 100% honest I've despised those two things since day 1… It made me quit Badlion and made me lose all my motivation to play and tryhard the Global Leaderboards, as I've been on them for 3 consecutive seasons.Last edited on 02 February 2017 - 08:25 AM by Jmqcc

His point is that your opinion is irrelevant because you either don't play enough or you're terrible

s14: Being silver 1 after 11 matches is where it places you if you go 9 and 1 (possibly win all your placement matches) in your placements.
s13: Was gold 1 in build before they reset it (Only ladder I played)
s12: 1400, 1412, 1570, 1416
s11: 1441, 1508, 1571, 1728, 1418
s10: 1411, 1404, 1527, 1376, 1416, 1396, 1446
On my alt:
s12: 1397, 1432, 1576, 1562, 1450
Never was a 1200. Being silver 1 after 11 matches is where it places you if you go 9 and 1 (possibly win all your placement matches) in your placements. If you think that makes your opinion irrelevant you need to reevaluate yourself.

I'm sort of getting sick of this. This thread is the literal definition of bigotry. You have provided zero reasons other than "haha he is a silver he doesn't get a say!!1!!". Please, provide me with valid points and I'll have a legitimate discussion. I'm happy to do that. Until you do, please stop calling people "bad" and "they don't have a say".TakeMySoul wrote
Oh wow, it's amusing to see people who aren't as experienced have an opinion? I have legitimately no clue where you're coming from.
Jmqcc wrote
The points in reply to this were idiotic. We aren't discussing whether or not people with lower rating are skilled PvPers, we're discussing the mathematics and the logic behind the rating systems. Having a say in the rating system is not relevant to their rating themselves, it's relevant to the math and statistics behind it, as Jmqcc said.

Oh wow, let's call him an 8 year old. No. Give him valid points as to why he's wrong. I don't care how dumb his points are (which they're not), there is no purpose in calling anyone on here an 8 year old (unless they're actually 8).
Lastly, reply to these points from Archybot:

If you cannot argue against these points, then why are you here? As I always say, an argument/discussion focuses on the other person's points, not the other person; if you resort to aimlessly taking shots at the opposition, you aren't arguing.
