Welcome to Badlion!
Hello to all who read this, I am making this thread for any new players wondering what they can play on the server here. I will be talking about the various main gamemodes and activities you can join here as well as a few other things.

Badlion

This is the name of the server you are currently on, it is the main server of competitive pvp in minecraft as well as being widely known for UHC. The server is currently very popular, It has hosts in, North America,m Europe, South america, and Australia. The server is currently owned by TEO to creature future event for competitive minecraft and other events. The owners of the server are Archybot and MasterGBerry.

I will now be going over the different gamemodes that are available to play on the server here.

UHC

Before I begin, I will explain what UHC is and means.
UHC means ultra hardcore. Basically in this gamemode natural regeneration is off and you will not gain any health back unless you, eat a golden apple, drink a healing potion, or drink a regen potion (these are disabled on badlion however). UHC is typically a game where you are placed into an arena and pinned against a large amount of other players to be the last standing player or team.

UHC is an incredibly popular gamemode currently focusing on players standing alone or in teams to be the last remaining player(s).

There are currently several different gamemodes for UHC all of which can be reviewed here: https://www.badlion.net/forum/thread/88227

The basics of badlion UHC are quite simple, allow me to explain.

Badlion UHC's typically last nearly two hours for the average game and that may vary depending on if it is rush or not.

There are different strategies and methods to playing the game I will go over for any curious individuals.

Snowballing This is a very popular and risky method to playing the game. In this strategy a player goes to the surface and starts to hunt players at the center of the map being 0,0 on your XY coordinates. Typically players do this with only being full iron or having a few secondaries like a bow or a rod. With an effective snowball you begin killing players and with each kill you will earn more gear you can use again other players in your attempt to win the game. Snowballing can make you one of the most geared players in the game or it can also lead to an early death for you if not played right.

Border camping On the Badlion server, the border automatically shrinks at 65 mins after the game start or 1:05:00 on the clock within the game. It shrinks 500 blocks per shrink going from a 3000x3000 border. Border camping is typically where you would mine and become as geared as possible and then go up to the corner of the border and wait for the shrink to happen so you may kill the players shrunk there. Border camping also involved the popular idea of trapping. Trapping by definition means prevent (someone) from escaping from a place. In UHC, players typically make a one block wide trap for all players to be shrunk into so that they may kill whoever gets stuck inside there and gather whatever items they need from the killed players. There are many variations of traps you can make and use, however I will be talking about those in another thread. Border camping is also risky because you have no guarentee that you will mine well and get whatever items you need to win. This is equally as risky as snowballing however it has a higher rate of producing wanted items when you correctly trap other players.

These are the main two strategies when playing a UHC, there are slight variations among these of course however they are less known and even less used.

ArenaPvP

This is another very popular server within the Badlion server. On Arena you will find a large variation of ladders and ways to practice your pvp and get better against other players. The arena covers all areas of pvp ranging from pot, to uhc, to bow and even soup. There are also ranked and unranked ladders for players to choose from.

Ranked Ranked is the area of arena where you go up against other players in attempt to achieve a higher overall rating for either a specific ladder or in total. You start off by playing a number of matches and the server will place you accordingly to how it sees your skill level going by losses and wins. After you play your "placement matches" as they are called you will be given a rating for that specific ladder. I will take a moment to discuss the ratings and how they work here:

The ratings are as followed, Bronze -> Silver -> Gold -> Emerald -> Diamond -> Masters.

Each rating is also used with a number system of 1-5. Being a 5 in a specific rating means that is the lowest of said rating. For example, Emerald 5 is the lowest tier of all emerald ratings and comes directly after Gold 1. You pass through the ratings and gain points by defeating other players in specific ladders. Being a number 1 in a rating is the highest and when you earn enough points you will advance to the next tier. The exception to this is masters, Reaching the masters tier is the end due to the fact that no rating comes after it. If you reach masters and decide to continue playing on that ladder the system will simply add points to your overall total instead of advancing you. Each rating (1-5) is counted by a system out of 1000 points. When you defeat enough players in matches and gain 1000 points you will then play a promotion match. If you win the promotion match you will advance to the next rating and/or tier. There are also demotion matches for when you continue to lose matches. You will derank the the previous rating and/or tier of you lose this match. If you win the demotion match you will earn your points and have to play again as normal. When a promotion or demotion match comes up for you, you will receive a special message in chat as well as a noise alert in game.

UnRanked This simply means that the ladders are identical to the ranked ones however, there are no ratings and you are free to practice. In unranked you only have a said amount of matches you can play per day however there are ways to gain more. You can vote for the server and earn more matches that way or you can also donate as gain unlimited matches. There are always two ladders that will be unlimited for players in unranked, These two ladders change every 24 hours to keep things interesting and fresh.

UHC Meetup This is another popular gamemode on the server as it provides practice for actual UHCs. Meetup means that 50 players will be set into an arena and forced to go until one player stands as the winner. You are given one random kit upon spawning and it will have to use said kit until you kill another player. If you do not like the items in your kit you can reroll, Players can do this twice a day and it means to give you a new kit with new items. There are million of different kits due to separate enchants, items and such for all kits. You can expect a different kit than the last nearly every time. Upon getting kills and winning, Meetup also uses the same ranking system as ArenaPvP. You will be placed after you play enough and go from there. You can derank and rank up the same as arena pvp as well. If you are the winner of the meetup match you will be given the chance to MLG which means teleport ed into the air and attemp the land with a water bucket.

Survival games This is a classic minecraft pvp gamemode however for any who do not know it I will explain it here. There are 24 players who get taken into an arnea that contains a specific map for the gamemode. The timer will go off and the players can choose to rush into the middle of the map in attempt to take whatever items lie inside of the chests or they can run and search the map for gear. There are chests scattered around the map containing different items ranging from Armour to weapons to secondaries or food. There are also different chest tiers being 1 and 2. Tier 1 typically holds weaker items such as wooden swords or more basic armour. Tier 2 are less common and can hold higher items like stone swords and iron Armour. There is a set time for players to search the map and kill others before the final 4 players are brought to a small deathmatch arena until a winner is found. The survival games also use the same rating as arena pvp and Meetup as well.

CTW and CTF I am going to be disusing these two together as they are similar. CTW is where two teams spawn on very large opposing islands with many other players on their teams. The goal of the game is to build structures and make your way across the map in order to take a wool from the other team's side and bring it back to your own spawn. There are two wools per map and the first team the capture both will be declared the winner. CTF is similar, you spawn on a premade map and you and your team must get to the opposing team's base and take their flag to bring back to your own base. There is a set timer per game and once the timer reaches the limit the team with the most captures will be announced as the winners.

Skywars This is another very popular gamemode on minecraft. The basics of it are that a set amount of players will be spawned in above floating islands and then the game starts they will be dropped onto their own island. Within their island are chests holding items that each player can use to eliminate anyone else. You can choose to bridge yourself to another player's island directly or you can head the the center. The center is a larger island and it typically has the higher tiered items for use. The players must eliminate each other in any form possible and the last player standing is the winner. Each map also has its own variety and adds it's own unique style to the game.

Mini UHC This is basically the exact same as UHC normal except for a few changes. The border is 500x500 by default and shrinks faster than normal. The gamemodes on mini are very minimal at the moment but they keep it interesting. The mini games tend to be quick and fun for players who do not have time for a full UHC. Unlike normal UHC the player count for this gamemode caps at 24 due to the incredibly small border and faster paced aspect of it.

CubeCore Cubecore was originally meant to be a Pot PvPpractice map for Kohi's Cubecore factions from before the merge. It's legacy lives on in our Cubecore map, where you can team up with friends and fight against others. Like HCF, the Cubecore map has different classes to chose from that you can equip in spawn: Diamond, Archer, Rogue, and Bard. You can save and load the kits you create by clicking the anvil in spawn. The kits grant the following:
-Rogue (Full Chain Armor) : Unlimited speed 3 and jump boost 2
-Bard (Full Gold Armor) : Unlimited speed 2, weekness 4, regeneration, and resistance 2. In addition you can right click these items to give enemies or friendly players extra buffs: magma cream (grants fire res), blaze rod (grants strengh), ghast tear (grants regeneration), fermented spider eye (withers nearby enemy players), and a feather (grants jump 2)
-Archer (Full Leather Armor) : Unlimited speed 3
-Diamond (Full Diamond Armor) : Nothing special but you have more protection than the other kits, this is the most commonly used
You can equip these classes by opening the various chests in spawn, and edit your inventory to however you want it. You can find potions by right clicking the brewing stand.
The map also gives you the option to build on it, although the map resets all blocks placed over night.
In addition, you can also team up with friends by creating a squad. Do this by typing /squad create (squad name) , and invite players to the squad using /squad invite (player name) . More squad commands can be found by typing /squad. Friendly potion affects given out by a bard is only given to surrounding players who are in the bard's squad.
There are occasional daily events as well, such as king of the hill. Details for those events and where you can find them is displayed in chat.

This brings my welcome thread to a close, I hope I was helpful in any new players coming onto the server. I will also be updating and fixing this thread as needed so please feel free to leave feedback.
