If I went and committed a crime and then claimed I wasn't a criminal, would that automatically make me not a criminal?

Not the same thing, if you looked at what he said you will know he does not want people to argue about him asking for attention. Another thing that ihacklite said that hes not supossed to say something like that in minecraft community but what if this place is the only place that he likes and irl no one would understand,some people use the internet as escape and you from all people should support him since you know how much time you spend being staff. Uh, people can criticize other people's ways of life. If you live like a slob, I can say you have a disgusting lifestyle. People have the right to disagree, and he personally thinks it's disgusting–so be it. He's not harming him, hating him, or encouraging violence against him.
Now if I go around saying that I hate gays and such and that they deserve death, that's different. That's not nice.
A lot of people conflate "spreading negativity" and promoting "hate speech" with expressing a different viewpoint. It's a great way to destroy counterarguments rather than debating–label it "hate speech" and then toss it out by making it illegal.
I personally am happy for Magiclz and support his bisexuality. But forcing "tolerance" and dismissing different viewpoints through language policing and group think is not something we should be doing.
Edit: The only way I'd agree with that being out of line is because I suppose in some sense you could label that as "homophobia," and "homophobic slurs" are actually against Badlion rules (though, again, I saw none). I'm all for free speech, but Badlion is in charge of what content is put on their server.

The amount of ignorant replies is pretty disturbing…Try to ignore them, most of them are too busy playing minecraft all day instead of exposing themselves to the outside world where they can meet a variety of people from different cultures, religions, etc.
