Afaik something's wrong with the matchmaker rn so it's sometimes putting you on servers that are far away. Could be wrong about that though. To use your own texturepack simply put it in your main Minecraft resourcepack folder and it'll show up in the client like it normally would.

hmm seems interesting, though I feel like the main purpose of this is to promote the client since the majority of the community hate it from first impressions.
