It's been over a year since 1.9 came out. I'm aware that Badlion (and basically everyone else) does not support vanilla 1.9+ combat. Since I personally have enjoyed playing with both 1.7 and 1.9 combat systems, I wanted to come and ask what it is about 1.9's combat that is so abhorrent that it will not be supported.
From what I've read from the developers, they seem to like a few changes, but overall find the new system "cancerous". In particular, the issues seem to lie with:
1. Shields (and removal of block-hitting)
2. Rods
3. Attack cooldown
So, if you're going to respond with any of those three answers, I have a few questions that I'd like you to answer as well, to help me understand your argument:
1. Why do you prefer spammable blocking with swords/What flaws do you see with shields (1.11 shields since that's more current)?
2. Why are 1.7 rod mechanics so important - isn't it more frustrating than anything?
3. If a player can only be hit twice a second, why does the cooldown matter so much? The only difference between being able to click 7 times a second and being able to click 1.6 times a second is that missing a swing in 1.9 gives you a small punishment; it does not affect the time-to-kill someone whatsoever. On top of this, the armor nerf came around to help bridge any time-to-kill gap there might have been. So, in short, I know you all hate attack cooldowns, but why?
I personally hate all of the 1.9 PvP mechanics, but it'd be really nice to see 1.9 Arena return to Badlion. That was fun.

Well, okay, when you say "all", what do you mean? More importantly, why?
I'd be happy with nearly anything at this point that Badlion does to integrate 1.9+ features into the game.
Also, on shields, the vanilla shield durability is 336. Different servers of course may alter durability as they see fit.

@logicalpencilsHe means all mechanics as in every mechanic
All
adjective
1.
the whole of (used in referring to quantity, extent, or duration):
all the cake; all the way; all year.
2.
the whole number of (used in referring to individuals or particulars, taken collectively):
all students.
3.
the greatest possible (used in referring to quality or degree):
with all due respect; with all speed.

Well snark-master, I want to know what "every mechanic" is that he's referring to - often people say "all", but they really just mean the big or important ones, or just the ones they remember at the time. And again, I want to actually have reasons presented to me so that I can actually know what it is that bothers people and try to explain the pro-1.9+ side of the argument, with both sides getting beyond the untrue accusations that the other version is a skill-less noob system.Posted on 07 June 2017 - 05:18 PM
@logicalpencils You should be glad this thread remained serious longed than I was expecting :PRegarding my opinion I already said everything I knew/felt, now I have to test 1.12 some longer to give it another chance, and see if I like it.

Cps means almost nothing in pvp. I am a decent pot player and I typically only click 4cps unless im fighting a god. Aiming, strafing, W tapping, A/D tapping and timing everything with your clicks is more important in my opinion. Its easy to beat people with 10cps who don't time their W taps etc. You can't say that 1.7 is all about 'spam clicking'.Posted on 07 June 2017 - 07:05 PM
@Drained you are right - it isn't just spam-clicking. That's one of the reasons I was always so confused about 1.9 upsetting so many people.Last edited on 07 June 2017 - 07:13 PM by Drained

I think its just the knockback and mod incompatibility that causes people to dislike it. It may also be something to do with frames. I have a bad computer, and I get better frames when playing on 1.7 compared to 1.8/1.9.

I feel like the newer versions are just weird and buggy. It's not the same feel as 1.7. I honestly don't understand why Mojang changed so many animations in the 1.7 -> 1.8 transfer. Other than that 1.11 animations are just very awkwardPosted on 07 June 2017 - 09:04 PM
#1.11 badlioncause 1.9 Badlion was really smooth and I loved it

@*deleted-96553 Before making implied accusations that I don't think spam-clicking is skillful, please read the original post and my subsequent discussion with the other members here - you'd then see that I never claimed such a thing. I believe 1.7 involves skill just as much as 1.9+ does (although different kinds of skill). So, I can see how having to change one's skills is a bit frustrating for 1.9, but it doesn't mean servers can't have options for playing both equally valid variants of combat - which is the secondary purpose of this post (the primary to be for me to get people's actual reasons for disliking 1.9+).Also, @Hamatito , what did you mean by "weird 1.11 animations"? (it's 1.12 now, technically) Like, an actual example please?

Can't really give an example havent played 1.10 since basically its release but I remember it was quite weird. Most of it also goes back to 1.8.Posted on 08 June 2017 - 02:01 AM
Simple answer is people don't like this drastic of a change to something they enjoy. Same reason why people didn't like MMR.Posted on 08 June 2017 - 02:02 AM
