Oftentimes when I'm fighting someone really high on the leaderboards, they don't seem to land that many more hits than me yet they're still able to kill me with 8+ hearts. I do blockhit but they still somehow inflict more damage on me.

Since it is heavily online, I would consider ping to be the issue here. They may have more reliable/faster internet too since they take it as more of a priority compared to others.
