Lately I've been noticing that there is either one or no 6.0 games every uhc time(2:00 est, 4:30 est, 7:00 est, 9:30 est, etc.) and when there does happen to be a game it's always hosted by spacetrain… badlion used to have at least 2 games at each time and now they're struggling for one. Hosts need to host more…I look on the uhc host staff page and there's a bunch of hosts on there that I never see hosting.A bunch of people have come back to badlion for 6.0 games so that should be the focus (in my opinion) of the uhc hosts.

+1 literally the games fill without effort lol there should be a game every hour (not all day obviously). you're badlion, you've got thousands of players, you can easily do that. if you need a bigger hosting team then advertise applicationsPosted on 17 August 2017 - 11:44 PM
What is your idea to just make people host more?Posted on 18 August 2017 - 09:57 AM
Putting this here as a reminder, I will write my full thoughts on this later.Last edited on 18 August 2017 - 11:26 AM by mothblock

Main thoughts of this thread are:
1. Make sure all the hosts are doing their fair share of hosting
2. Focus hosting/time on 6.0 games
3. Try to get 2 games (a team game and ffa game) every uhc time

Start thanking hosts for what they do and I'm sure you'll notice an increase in gamesPosted on 18 August 2017 - 01:43 PM
Right so, I'll type out my response here. I have a few different points to cover to i'll do each separate.1. Ungrateful players As @Saimo said, people could go to thank us a little more. We do this out of volunteer work and it is something we make time in our days for. Many times host will ruin their own plans in IRL to handle games that are going unclaimed and it can be rather annoying. We often get yelled at by players when we hosting our games rather than praise. Often times I've hosted, I've been told to kill myself or that I am a shit host because people dislike the gamemodes. We get yelled at if we don't host the exact games players want all the time, they want the same thing every game. WE rarely get thanked for what we do, it's more insulting us because we don't cater to every last player. It can really hurt a person's want to host when they get nothing but hate for sacrificing their time to provide games.
2. We have lives too We are all people, and we all have lives and things we have to get to outside of this game. We often have IRL events and tasks that take priority over hosting these games. A typical UHC takes anywhere from 90-120 mins to host and that is a lot of time to stay at one place for. We have to give up large chunks of time to host even one game a day and that can really make a mess of schedules and plans. People do not want to sit here all day every day hosting, they may get burnt out when they host too much and decide to take a break.
3. Stress Hosting takes a lot of patience and focus of work. A host has several things to handle and deal with each game they host and it can really take a toll on them as a person. We often have several people messaging us at once and it's rather hard to handle all the people at one time when you're alone. There is a large amount of circumstances and whether it's answering mass questions or speccing people, it can be very hard when someone is alone. People often take a break because they don't want the added stress in their daily lives coming from hosting.
4. Lack of motivation When a single host does many games a day or over a short period of time they have a lot to do. They are giving so many hours of their time to take several games and it can really have an effect. A host may burn themselves out or lose motivation when they host too many games and try to handle too many tasks. Working on too many bans or too many reports will really make someone annoyed and want to stop. Simply to say it, one moderator over doing it will result in less activity due to them not wanting to host.

I understand everything you're saying here, I used to be a host and have experienced all of this. But regardless, when you apply for the uhc host position you should expect hate from people. I do agree that hosts aren't recognized for everything they do for the community though.
In my opinion though, this shouldn't happen:

8 games in a row hosted by spacetrain and kodii. That shouldn't be happening…I feel like the majority of the uhc hosts are inactive, if they haven't hosted a uhc in a long time then they shouldn't be a host. Back when I was a host, a variety of hosts hosted different games at different times. Now it seems like the only active hosts are spacetrain, kodii, and kallyy.
How many games are hosts required to host a month/week/whatever it is? In my opinion, 6.0 is whats keeping uhc alive on badlion. Half the people play 5.0 games in comparison to 6.0. Keep hosting 6.0 and a lot more people will play badlion.
Also, spacetrain should be a senior host/promoted because the amount of time and effort he puts into hosting is CRAZY! (I know I have nothing to do with whether he gets promoted or not but just a suggestion.)

@mothblock (Avoiding large quote)I completely agree that more hosts should be active. There was a point recently where I was hosting 3-4 games a day and waking up early because they were going unclaimed. It's rather annoying and really takes a toll on us. We do need more active hosts and more hosts in general, it's not something we can force sadly. I do agree that there is a small amount of active hosts, and it's really annoying seeing so many people do nothing or play games instead of claiming. I do also push off most hate when it comes my way however, sometimes it gets too much for personal reasons. I know personal reasons are not important but they can really effect my hosting also. You are completely right however, major change needs to happen. We need more active people rather than a small group of people always hosting.

Before I start typing this, dont get me wrong, I am grateful for the hosts that host a uhc. The problem, like you said is the inactive hosts. There are 40 hosts, and not all of them are even hosting. I reccomend that there should be a rule that hosts should host atleast 3-5 games a month, or they get demoted or they just go back to being an arena mod. I feel like this will get some inactive hosts to get motivated to host.Posted on 21 August 2017 - 04:24 AM
To be completely blunt, badlion hosting seems to go in waves. 1. Huge influx of hosts/players. 2. Add games. 3. Climax. 4. Lack of motivation from host team drops off, select few try to take the load. 5. Players start complaining about games not being hosted. 6. Repeat. Thats no knock on the host team, just an observation ive gotten from being a part of and following the server for a few years.Also. @bosclown that description on ungrateful players is so correct. For instance, I liked hosting vanilla games, and i would get flamed all game for it. There were multiple times where i picked up the game last minute, and people didnt seem to realise the game wouldnt have happened otherwise.
Also. @mothblock I assume there are unclaimed games inbetween the ones shown in the screenshot. Maybe space and kodi just like to preclaim man. Still a bit of a problem if theyre the only ones claiming tho.
