fishing rods ruined pvp
would love the rod so much more if it had lower limited uses

it increases complexity of the game. Wouldn't say it really ruined pvp as a whole because there are multiple kits which don't require the fishing rod.

It's sure as hell not a plugin though.

If fishing rod kb isn't vanilla, and it isn't a plugin, what is causing it?

The rod adds diversity to pvp in general. Without it, non-speed pvp would mainly play like diamond.

Ti dico adesso che non era un plugin, di server ne ho esperienza.

Maybe it was something built into Bukkit, or maybe it's actually something else.

Well then it was built into bukkit

Either way, it has never been a Vanilla feature, a probably never will.

You know what else would add diversity to pvp…

Actual 1.12 modes. With the cooldown and everything. Strength and Weak pots could be used in certain modes since Strength isn't broken and Weakness is useful in 1.9+. You could have a Axes mode that actually plays differently from Iron. You could have Shield/NoShield mode, PotArcher because of tipped arrows, Undying with the Totem item, LingerPot, and PullRod; and just for fun you could have a mode over water with Frost Walker + Depth Strider boots, or a mode where you can only kill by giving your opponent Levitation through custom arrows.

Basically, there's a ton of missed potential here that nobody has taken up yet, and Badlion very well could.

As for "well vanilla 1.12 pvp sucks lol", Badlion doesn't even do vanilla 1.7 pvp - they customize everything from exact kb values and click speed limits to altered weapon mechanics. I don't see why it'd be so wrong to have a shot at an actual vanilla mode for once.

Click speed limits? Altered weapon mechanics? What does that even mean.
Badlion uses different kb values because the original ones aren't designed to work on large servers and they don't make sense for PvP. That means they can change them and they should. People want the best 1.7 PvP experience they can have. They don't want 1.12.

^ Fishing rods, for example, don't do kb in vanilla - that's an addition to the game.

Define "makes sense for pvp".

As it turns out, there are people who are a little sick of the big servers not even attempting to use 1.9+. I'm not the only person who likes 1.9+, though I might be the only one who's still willing to walk into the hive of the 1.7 pvp community to point it out.

I'll happily define makes sense for PvP. It means that the vanilla KB deals much more vertical so often the first hit will win the game, which means that complex mechanics no longer have that same skill, whereas having a more horizontal as well as some vertical allows for breaking out of combos more easily, thus increasing the skill gap.

People seem to forget; Badlion had 1.9 in S12. It wasn't played. It died because not enough people wanted it or played it. I don't believe that 1.9 simply doesn't require skill, it does, and arguably, requires more skill than 1.7. However, that's not the same PvP that people want. I personally hate 1.9 PvP because I've been playing 1.7 for years and it's more fun for me. It doesn't matter that 1.9 may require more skill (which is still arguable, I don't agree with it but can't deny that there are some strong arguments for it), it matters that I and most of the community prefers 1.7 to 1.9.

^ You know, vanilla 1.12 has less vertical kb, too…

I mean, I never heard of Badlion's 1.9 until it was already removed, because any time I saw someone playing "1.9 Badlion" it just looked like 1.7 Badlion. Why? Because it wasn't actually 1.9 - it was just 1.7 with slower blocking. And yes I read the whole patch notes on that 1.9 arena mode from the devs, and honestly most of those things they implemented were alright and I see no reason to have removed them (such as crits requiring not sprinting), but they barely implemented anything from 1.9 at all.

They tried to replicate 1.7 in 1.9, which obviously would fail when you could just play 1.7. They never tried actual 1.9 (well, now 1.12).

I've played 1.7's style for years and was happy for the changes; made the game feel much more physical. And sure, to each his own, but I don't see why not being the most popular mode means Badlion shouldn't add it - I mean, there's quite a few games on Badlion that are pretty unpopular that are still up. And making 1.12 vanilla modes would literally be the easiest thing in the world - no custom coding necessary beyond giving people their gear and using bungeecord or something to hook them to a 1.12 server to fight on.
